Club MacStories Turns 5: A Month-Long Thank You to Members Featuring Exclusive Discounts and Many More Perks

Today marks the fifth anniversary of Club MacStories. For the past five years, the Club has grown to become an integral part of what MacStories is. It’s the fuel that has allowed us to do more on the site, add new perks for Club members, and expand into podcasts.

Thank you to all of our Club members, past and present. You’re a big part of what allows us to do what we love, and we truly appreciate it. A special thanks to those of you who have been along for the ride for all five years too. There are quite a few of you, and your loyalty is humbling.

To celebrate this year’s anniversary, we’ve got a lot planned over the next four weeks:

  • App, Service, and Hardware Discounts: Below are discounts from developers of some of our favorite apps, services, and hardware.
  • App Giveaways: We periodically do app giveaways in MacStories Weekly, one of the Club’s email newsletters, but we’re taking that to a whole new level over the next four weeks, as you’ll begin to see in this Friday’s issue.
  • eBooks: When Federico’s iOS and iPadOS 14 review is published, and we’ve concluded our Summer OS Preview series, both will be available as eBooks exclusively to Club members.
  • Shortcuts and Automations: Alongside his review, Federico will share a set of advanced iOS 14 shortcuts and automations in MacStories Weekly.
  • ’Making Of’ the iOS 14 Review: When Federico’s review is published, we’ll have a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the review in MacStories Weekly.
  • MacStories Unplugged: We’ll also publish special episodes of MacStories Unplugged, our Club podcast, covering the nerdy, behind-the-scenes details of Federico’s review and our favorite iOS and iPadOS 14 apps.
  • Surprises: Of course, it wouldn’t be a MacStories celebration without a few surprises, so keep an eye on MacStories Weekly for more details in the coming weeks.

The iPad at 10: Emerging from the Shadow of the iPhone

The trouble with looking back over a long period is that time has a way of compressing history. The clarity of hindsight makes it easy to look back at almost anything and be disappointed in some way with how it turned out years later.

We certainly saw that with the anniversary of the introduction of the iPad. Considered in isolation a decade later, it’s easy to find shortcomings with the iPad. However, the endpoints of the iPad’s timeline don’t tell the full story.

It’s not that the device is short on ways it could be improved; of course, it isn’t. However, the path of the iPad over the past decade isn’t a straight line from point A to point B. The iPad’s course has been influenced by countless decisions along the way bearing consequences that were good, bad, and sometimes unintended.

The 10th anniversary of the iPad isn’t a destination, it’s just an arbitrary point from which to take stock of where things have been and consider where they are going. To do that, it’s instructive to look at more than the endpoints of the iPad’s history and consider what has happened in between. Viewed from that perspective, the state of the iPad ten years later, while at times frustrating, also holds reason for optimism. No single product in Apple’s lineup has more room to grow or potential to change the computing landscape than the iPad does today.

Club MacStories Fourth Anniversary: Exclusive Discounts on Apps and Services, Plus Other Perks for Members

This time every year, we like to pause to mark the anniversary of Club MacStories and thank all of our members for being part of what makes MacStories special. So, whether you’ve been along for the ride all four years or just signed up this week, thank you. We sincerely appreciate your support.

In just four short years, the Club has become part of the fabric of MacStories. It’s helped us weather changes in the online media industry that have hurt so many other sites. More importantly, though, Club MacStories has provided us with an outlet to share more of the apps we love and the stories behind them than we could do otherwise.

The Club has also played a big role in MacStories’ expansion these past four years, just as Federico hoped when he announced it in 2015:

On top of the extra content that you pay for, you’ll also get a chance to be an awesome reader who makes a direct contribution to the MacStories team. Effectively, Club MacStories will enable us to expand and produce even more articles for the site. It’s a virtuous cycle: I want to keep writing MacStories forever – if that wasn’t clear enough – and I want to keep reaching new readers every day together with my team. Hopefully, with time those readers will find MacStories valuable and they’ll choose to become Club members, getting more great content in return and facilitating further expansions.

The virtuous cycle Federico imagined materialized and has allowed us to play to our greatest strength at MacStories, which is writing thorough, thoughtful analyses of apps and other topics. It has also permitted us to branch into podcasting and take on broad-scope projects like the celebration of the App Store’s 10th anniversary last year and MacStories Selects, our annual picks of the best apps in a bunch of categories.

To celebrate the Club’s anniversary this year, we have collected another amazing list of exclusive Club discounts on apps and services from our friends in the developer community. Every year, their generosity is amazing. Thanks to every developer for both contributing discounts to our celebration and for the apps you make. Despite the length of time we’ve been writing about apps, we’re still surprised and delighted all the time by your amazing creations.

Club MacStories Is Celebrating Its Third Anniversary with Exclusive Discounts on Apps and Services

It’s hard to imagine that Club MacStories is already three years old. In that time, the Club has grown steadily allowing us to expand its offerings every year. Today, Club MacStories is a cornerstone of MacStories allowing us to share more about apps and the people who make them every week through the Club newsletters and on MacStories.

The success of the Club wouldn’t be possible without its members, many of whom have been part of it since the very first day. Thank you. We sincerely appreciate your support and for helping make it possible for us to do what we love.

To celebrate the Club’s anniversary this year, we have assembled a stellar list of exclusive Club discounts on apps and service from our friends in the developer community. Their generosity has been overwhelming, and we can’t thank them enough for contributing to the celebration. This year we have over 50 apps and services from 30 developers, including:

(See club.macstories.net/anniversary/ for the terms and conditions regarding each deal)

Club members can log into their membership account and access these deals from a special webpage that we’ve set up just for you. The discounts will be available for two weeks from today through September 28th.

There are even more perks coming for Club members, including a free edition of the eBook version of Federico’s iOS 12 review, the ‘Making Of’ the review, a bonus episode of AppStories, and other special surprises.

Thanks again to our Club members. We appreciate the hard-earned money you spend to be part of our growing community. We love making the newsletters for you every week.
