Au Naturale iPhone Dock

The Enchanted Woods iPhone Dock from Anthropologie is “a fun nature-meets-technology way to stand and display your iPod or iPhone.” It’s very popular but has a very high price (for what it is). Chris Gardner over at ManMade decided to make his own because at nearly $100, it’s lot to pay for something that didn’t have “speakers, a clock, or even a way to plug it into the wall.” Because it’s 100% wood and doesn’t require electricity he made a DIY instructional guide.

Garder’s version is good, if not better. As long as you have easy access to some timber and some power tools, why not make one yourself instead of forking out $100? Then you can cross ‘making something with your own hands’ off your Man Stuff To-Do list.

Back to the Future: The Game Coming To The Mac This Week

Great news, Back to the Future fans and Mac owners: you’re getting a BTTF game for the Mac this week. Telltale Games announced the release date of “Back to the Future: The Game” last week, and it looks like the BTTF franchise will get a series of games for Mac and PC that will be made available as “episodes” from December through summer 2011. The first episode called “It’s about time” is coming out this week, on Wednesday. Just in time for Christmas.

First off, those who pre-ordered the game will get a free copy of Puzzle Agent and will also contribute a 1 dollar donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. As for the game, it seems like it’ll be based 6 months after the ending of BTTF 3, and it will be an adventure where you’ll control Marty in his effort to go back in time and find Emmett Brown. Telltale says the game has been developed with the fans of the movie in mind, it will feature alternate timelines and will be the first game for Mac and PC where space and time continuum really matters.

Sounds exciting to you? I’m just worried about the episodic nature of this game series – I never liked games released in episodes. Still, this is Back to the Future we’re talking about and Telltale is well-known for creating sweet gems. Which means I’ll be waiting eagerly for the game to come out on Wednesday.

Noteshelf 3.0 Adds AirPrint, Multitasking, Photo Album Integration

Noteshelf is, in my opinion, the best handwriting app for the iPad. As I wrote in my review in October, of all the note taking and handwriting apps for iPad I had tried Noteshelf managed to stand out because of its excellent wrist protection mode, smooth digital ink, templates and overall UI design. The first version of Noteshelf was good, but the 2.1 one was even better as the developer added Evernote and Dropbox support, finer ink, more notebooks.

I have been using Noteshelf for months and haven’t really looked back. Plus, it works great with my Pogo Sketch and the AluPen review unit I got last week. Read more

tap tap tap Releases Voices 2, Camera+ Is Coming Back

After months of silence following the removal of Camera+ from the App Store, the folks at well-known development team tap tap tap announced the released of a brand new version of Voices for iPhone, a popular app we reviewed last year that allows you apply cool effect to your voice using the device’s mic.

Together with the release of Voices 2, tap tap tap has confirmed Camera+ isn’t dead, they have a new version “in review” at Apple’s App Review Team and it should go live in the App Store any day now. They call the new Camera+ “their biggest update yet”. I’m kind of intrigued.

As for Voices 2, the developers have added Retina graphics for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th gen, the possibility to edit recordings by choosing different effects, 9 new effects, AirPlay support. The new effects include stuff like “computer” (nice Macintosh in there!), “walkie-talkie” and “underwater”. I’m pretty sure the app will turn out to be the perfect prank maker this holiday season, especially with AirPlay support that will let me record creepy messages and send them through the house on Christmas day.

Voices 2 is a free update for existing users and you can check out the new effect by visiting this link, where the devs have set up a demo section to test the new features. You can buy Voices 2 for $0.99 in the App Store.

That said, while Voices 2 “sounds” like a great update, I’m looking forward to seeing the new Camera+ now. I loved the app, one day it was there and then it was gone. I used it on a daily basis, then the iOS updates Apple release made it unusable. Hopefully, Camera+ will be released before Thursday.

First Infinity Blade Update Coming Tomorrow, For Free

According to a tweet from the official Infinity Blade account, the widely anticipated first free update for one of the most successful iOS games ever is coming tomorrow in the App Store, two days ahead of the iTunes Connect shutdown for developers.

Tomorrow’s update will include five new weapons, five new shields, five new helmets and a new armor set. This equipment will allow users to raise the level cap to 45, but there’s more. New areas will be included, namely dungeons. There will be a new enemy to face and more details about the God King will be revealed.

Infinity Blade for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is available at $5.99 in the App Store. The update that will go live tomorrow won’t include a multiplayer mode (it seems like that’s coming in January), but it’ll be free for all existing users. No in-app purchase to unlock the new stuff.

We can’t wait.

With Beta 7, Sparrow Gets Close To Being The Ideal Gmail App for Mac

It’s been a while since we last covered Sparrow, a native Gmail client for Mac. The first version of the app came out in early October, and the developers have been busy fixing bugs, introducing new features and refining the design in these past two months and a half. What started as a nice Gmail app clearly inspired by Loren Brichter’s Tweetie slowly evolved into a stable, unique and feature-rich Gmail app for the Mac. Read more

MacBook Air Mods: Composition Notebook, Angry Birds

The new MacBook Air is a thing of beauty. Like I tweeted a few days ago, a friend of mine bought the 11-inch model last week and I’m finding myself constantly trying to reach it to see how much Apple managed to squeeze into that tiny piece of aluminum. It’s thin. It’s fast. But I guess that at this point you’ve heard about that.

What you probably don’t know is that some users are coming up with neat MacBook Air mods that will make you want one even more. From the same guy who created the iPhone 4 Leica skin for the most sophisticated photographer comes the composition notebook MBA skin. You know, just to remember the good old school days. Or maybe not.

If you don’t feel like carrying an aluminum composition notebook around, perhaps some Angry Birds is what you’re looking for. It’s got the birds, the pigs – no slingshot though. It’d be nice to apply this skin once Angry Birds comes to the Mac. Because it is coming, right?

Angry Birds 1.5 for iPad: 15 New Levels, Game Center, Mighty Eagle

Right ahead of Christmas, here comes an Angry Birds HD update for iPad that should grant the millions of Angry Birds and tablet owners out there hours of fun while unwrapping their presents.

Angry Birds HD 1.5 adds Game Center integration, 15 new levels (the previous update added 15 new levels, too), a new “frontier badlands” theme, a new golden egg and the long-awaited Mighty Eagle. Looks like a massive update and it’s no surprise that it’s been approved before the iTunes Connect holiday shutdown.

Angry Birds HD is available at $4.99 here.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 Available: Game Center, 100 Free Songs, Retina Graphics

A few hours ago Tapulous (now part of Disney), released a major new version of their iPhone hit Tap Tap Revenge: Tap Tap Revenge 4 is now live in the App Store, and it’s free. This new update is the most important one since the original release of TTR 3 and all its spin-offs, and it features lots of new functionalities, songs and graphics.

First off, the app now sports Retina Display graphics and it’s got Game Center integration. TTR now has global leaderboards to see who has the best scores worldwide, a “like” button to see who else likes the same songs as you and sharing on Twitter, Facebook and email. As far as the built-in community tools go, you can create your own avatar and buy accessories and clothes in the game stores, have chats and private messages with other users, engage in online battles and download free tracks every week.

Speaking of which, Tap Tap Revenge 4 comes with 100 free songs from artists like Linkin Park, Taio Cruz, Metallica, Nicki Minaj and My Chemical Romance, plus premium content from the in-app store. The song selection is pretty huge and should contribute to the game’s replay value. The new user interface is cool although a little bit cluttered in my opinion, the app is free but there’s ugly in-app advertising in the main screen. It kind of ruins the whole feeling of the game – still the Retina graphics are really shiny on the iPhone 4.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 is available for free in the App Store. Full changelog and video below. Read more
