3G Unrestrictor Updated for iOS 4.1, Jailbreakers Rejoice | Cydia Store

3G Unrestrictor, the popular tweak available in Cydia to trick apps to think they’re on Wifi while you’re using 3G, was updated earlier today to include full support for iOS 4.1. This means that if you’ve jailbroken your device with Geohot’s limera1n or Greenpo1son, you’ll be basically able to have FaceTime calls on 3G again.

I missed FaceTime on 3G, a lot. Italy’s Tre network is pretty powerful (especially in my town) and I was once able to have a FaceTime call on 3G with Robert Scoble, who was in Boulder, Colorado. The quality was great. Now, can enjoy the fixes of iOS 4.1 and have FaceTime on 3G back.

The tweak comes at $3.99 in the Cydia Store. Must-have. Read more

Here’s Why You Can’t Have A White iPhone 4, But This Guy Can

Once upon a time, Apple announced a white version of the iPhone 4. Hell, Steve Jobs even carried one on stage. It should have been out by July, then it got delayed. And again. And again. Then rumors about manufacturing problems started circulating. You all know the story. So what do we have here? A “gentleman” spotted at a private even in New York City by the guys over at PocketLint, carrying an iPhone 4 and giving out some details about the facts behind this white unicor - I mean, iPhone.

Say what you want, but this smells an awful lot like a controlled leak by Apple. I don’t know, some guy goes to a press event where he knows someone from the actual press is going spot the unit eventually, lets people take pictures of the device and confirms that the problem with the delays is with manufacturers? New York Band Performs Live On iPhones [Video]

We know there are hundreds of music applications for the iPhone out there; some even managed to win an Apple Design Award earlier this year. Yet, we also know there are some people on the internet who regularly quickly diss iOS devices as “consumption-only” devices.

So take a look at the video below. Brooklyn-based band Atomic Tom performed one of their hits  - “Take Me Out”  - entirely on their iPhones, in the subway. At first the crowd thought they were going to bomb the train (seriously? with those hipster moustache?), but Atomic Tom eventually managed to make quite an impression on the passengers. Great video.

Expenditure 1.1: iOS 4 Ready, More Currencies, Still One Of The Best Financial Apps for iPhone

When I reviewed the first version of Expenditure by Shape HQ in July, I called it one of the best financial apps for iPhone. I stand by my statement: even if I have a problem with financial apps, Expenditure is one of the finest implementations of the “track your income and expenses” system. It’s got a clean UI which doesn’t distract and doesn’t get in the way; it’s easy to navigate; it took 3 months for the developers to release the 1.1 update.

In spite of the delay, the new version of Expenditure is still great: there’s full iOS 4 support now, and the app finally really shines on the Retina Display. But the developers went further than a simple device and OS update, they implemented many (much needed) new features requested by Expenditure’s active userbase. The app now contains 13 new currencies: it should be enough for everyone. An import / export feature has been added, but I haven’t been able to test it; together with it, a passcode lock option for the privacy freaks among you.

The categories screen has been redesigned to provide a better overview, and now you can also rename categories - thank god. Last, there’s an option to reset sums every month. Oh, and lots of bug fixes.

Expenditure 1.1 surely sits on top of the best financial apps together with Squirrel, MoneyWell and MoneyBook. I may have my issues with these apps, but I acknowledge the quality. Two bucks in the App Store. Read more

Take Five: New App From The Iconfactory For When You Forget To Un-Pause Your Music

I love waking up to new apps from people I respect and admire. The Iconfactory guys are among these people: how couldn’t the makers of Twitterrific not be in the list? They’re great developers and experienced designers that don’t fail to surprise on each new app release.

Take Five is a new app for iPhone from The Iconafctory aimed at letting you remember about the music you paused and never turned back on. Admittedly, this is quite a common problem: not all iPhone apps support automatic resume after a phone call interruption (Spotify, for example) and so many times we simply forget to press the play button again. Take Five automatically fades your music back in after 5 minutes. Why didn’t we think of this before? Read more

New Gorgeous Grooveshark App Hits Cydia

The guys over at Grooveshark are going back to their roots: they have just released a brand new 2.0 version of their iPhone client in Cydia, where it all started. Grooveshark, in fact, released the first version of the music client in Cydia in 2009, when Apple didn’t want stuff like background streaming on its iPhones and iPod Touches. Last August, though, Apple revised its rules and approved the Grooveshark app - just to pull it a week later due to a complaint filed by the Universal Music Group UK.

As it turns out, the promising music streaming startup has grown tired of Apple’s rules and limitations, so they’re going back to Cydia. The app has been released for free under BigBoss’ repository. Read more
