Inkiness: Elegant Sketching for iPad
Here’s what happened with this post: I was going to write something like “here’s a neat little app for you to play with while Twitter is down”, then Twitter came back online. With a new CEO. Huge congrats to the Twitter team and good luck to Dick Costolo.
Anyway, I was going to talk about Inkiness for iPad. Inkiness is a very simple and elegant application to take notes on the tablet using your fingers. You can sketch and jot down your ideas, draw mockups (if you’re really good at it), share your creations via email, Twitter and (huge) Evernote. The greatest selling point of Inkiness is how simple it is: it’s just about sketching and sharing. There’s no fancy “import from” option, no PDF annotations, no additional features that would make it just like any other app out there. It’s about drawing with your fingers (it works great with my PogoSketch, too) inside an elegant and beautiful user interface. Read more

An Eastern Texas Federal Court has ruled that Apple’s Cover Flow UI infringes on patents owned by Mirror Worlds, and has ordered Apple Inc. to pay $208.5 million in damages, according to Bloomberg. Read more

Sparrow: New Email Client for Mac That’s Just Like Tweetie
I’ve been a Mail.app user for a long time, but a few weeks ago I decided to move my primary work mail account to Gmail under Google Apps. I love Gmail’s web UI, and even though I’m also a huge Mailplane fan I had to keep all my other Gmail / Google Apps-based accounts in Mail.app, mainly for the better integration with Applescripts, Automator workflows and plugins. Mail.app works fine, but it’s not revolutionary, breathtaking at the way it allows you to interact with messages or geared towards people who need to play with multiple accounts on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, if you put too many accounts in Apple Mail and activate too many plugins - it will explode. But then again, that’s not my main concern.
I’ve been wondering whether it’d be possible to developer a better Mail client for Mac. The Letters.app project seems to be dead or something, and I haven’t heard of other devs finding their way through IMAP and Cocoa. Not until this morning, when I got an email about - yes - an entirely new email application specifically built with Mac users in mind.

1TapAlarm: Easy Reminder Notifications for iPhone
Two weeks ago I installed a new app on my iPhone called “Due” which allows me to easily set up reminders for any action I don’t want to dump into my GTD system (powered by OmniFocus), yet I need to be reminded of. Due for iPhone is very simple, and it lets you enter a title for the “task”, a due time and play around with some straightforward settings.

Adidas Cancels iAd Campaign Because Steve Jobs Is A Control Freak
Despite some initial doubts about a not exactly happy start, Apple’s iAd program is predicted to match Google in the mobile market share by year’s end, and we’ve heard stories about iAds becoming a real gold mine for developers. We’ve also heard complaints from advertisers about Apple’s strict control on ad approval - something huge corporations like, say, Nissan or AT&T are not used to. Businesses weren’t used to “ad approval process” before Apple, and that’s all because Steve Jobs wants to build an ad system that engages users at a personal level with curated, rich and beautiful advertisements. MobileMe Gallery App Updated with iPad, iOS 4 And Retina Display Support
The MobileMe Gallery app (which I previously covered back in February here) allows you to check on your MobileMe photo galleries using a beautiful user interface with a couple of neat features up its sleeve. Apple just updated the app to include a native iPad version (the app is now universal, and of course free), full iOS 4 fast app switching support, Retina Display graphics.
You can also view your friends’ galleries without the need of having a MobileMe account, which is pretty cool. The app is free and available here, check out the screenshots below. Read more
