Welcome to MacStories 3.0

MacStories has really grown up the past few months, and thanks to accomplished pixel pushers such as Emanuel Sá and Silvia Gatta, masterful web developers like Alessandro Vendruscolo, and Federico’s passion for fueling consistent ballpark successes, we’re really proud to unveil a website that represents the culmination of lots of hard work. We not only managed to re-launch what we know to be best Mac and iOS blog out there, but we did it with the support of all of our wonderful readers who continue to be a driving source of motivation. It was in our interest to not only deliver a brand new experience, but to deliver one that feels like the mothership has finally landed. The new design is more than fantastic, and it only gets better from here on out.

Apple Posts “iPod + iTunes Timeline” Page

Not so many people noticed this on September 1st (Alex Brooks did), but Apple posted a cool webpage called “iPod + iTunes Timeline” right after the music event. You can check out the page here. As the name suggests, it’s a timeline of iTunes and iPod history starting from January 2001 all the way down to September 2010 and it comes with useful info about product release dates and announcements.

You can also download “image packs” (upon confirming an agreement) which contain .tif files of Apple products. At the bottom of the page, some pictures of celebrities enjoying their iPods.

BaseApp: Basecamp Notifications for Mac, Done Right

If you’re a Basecamp user, I guess you’re annoyed by its email notification system. Every time someone does something in the account, like edit a writeboard, a new email pops up in your Inbox. And even with a Priority Inbox, there’s not really anything you can do about that: you’ll get the email. With teams, it gets worse. If you have more than 5 projects and 20 people on a single account, just think about the consequences. Hundreds of emails per day. No way, there must be a better way.

Now we can say there’s a better way to stay updated with Basecamp. Thanks to BaseApp, you’ll be able to get every single update directly on your Mac desktop, without the clutter. For serious Basecamp users, BaseApp is a must-have. Read more

Cyberduck 3.6 Released with Google Storage Support

Cyberduck is a great FTP client I use every day to upload files to Rackspace Cloud Files (actually, it’s one of the few OS X apps that support Cloud Files) and access my iPhone and iPad file system (jailbreak is required). It’s a full-featured application to upload files to the internet, which just got a lot of better and is about to be used by a lot more users.

There’s a Windows version in the works, that’s true, and a beta is launching later this month. You can read the details here and also take a look at the first screenshots; for what it’s worth, the Windows UI looks pretty clean. Down to our Mac business, the new version introduces support for Google Storage (go sign up here), a refined dashboard interface with awesome new icons, support for S3 Bucket versioning and new Google Docs features.

Check out the full press after the break. Read more

Can You Drop Your iPhone On The iPhone 4 Table?

I also wonder whether you could hold this whole thing wrong or not. Does it have worse reception if you lay your legs on it? Can you put another iPhone on it? That would be meta.

The only truth is you can’t buy this. But you can make it. Just ask Jony for the glass.
