Reeder for iPad 1.2 Adds iOS 4.2 Support, Facebook and Zootool Sharing

What I consider the best RSS app for iPad, Reeder, got updated a few hours to version 1.2. This update introduces support for iOS 4.2 (which should be really around the corner now) and task completion for Google Reader syncing: you can close the app while it’s syncing and it’ll finish in the background. Persistent state also works fine in this new release.

Other features of 1.2 include support for Facebook and Zootool sharing (if you haven’t checked out Zootool yet, it’s a great web app to collect and organize bookmarks), better handling for accounts with hundreds of subscriptions, a larger tap area for next / previous buttons and less sensitive slider controls.

Reeder for iPad remains the best app to access Google Reader. If you don’t give it a try, you’re missing out. Available at $4.99 in the App Store.

ReadSquare: RSS Reader with a Reeder-like UI, But I Don’t Get It

On the iPad, Reeder is my default app for RSS feeds reading. It’s so beautiful, fast, feature rich and, at the same time, elegant I don’t see myself switching to another application anytime soon. But our job is to try new apps and keep you in the loop, right? So when I stumbled upon the preview page of this new iPad app – ReadSquare – I was very excited to try the app and I started waiting for it to show up in iTunes.

Last week, the app was released as free for a limited time. It’s available here for download. But while I was looking forward to see the app in action and whether it could deliver on what the developers promised (what actually got me interested in the first place), I now have to admit the execution is, sadly, very poor.

Exclusive Preview: Reeder for Mac

Reeder is my favorite RSS reader for iPhone and iPad. I might even say that Reeder is one of my favorite iPad apps, together with Twitter, Flipboard and Simplenote. When developer Silvio Rizzi told me I could get into the Reeder for Mac testing team I immediately jumped in.

Reeder for Mac will be awesome. I have no doubts about that, but we can’t share all the details now. The app is still in its early development stages, many things will probably change by the release date and most of all: don’t ask for a release date now. I don’t know when Reeder for Mac is going to be available. Nor do we have “invites” for the beta or are in the position to hook you up with a beta copy.

We had permissions to post a couple of screenshots form the latest build of Reeder for Mac. It’s going to be the ultimate RSS app on OS X. Read more
