BaseApp: Basecamp Notifications for Mac, Done Right

If you’re a Basecamp user, I guess you’re annoyed by its email notification system. Every time someone does something in the account, like edit a writeboard, a new email pops up in your Inbox. And even with a Priority Inbox, there’s not really anything you can do about that: you’ll get the email. With teams, it gets worse. If you have more than 5 projects and 20 people on a single account, just think about the consequences. Hundreds of emails per day. No way, there must be a better way.

Cyberduck 3.6 Released with Google Storage Support

Cyberduck is a great FTP client I use every day to upload files to Rackspace Cloud Files (actually, it’s one of the few OS X apps that support Cloud Files) and access my iPhone and iPad file system (jailbreak is required). It’s a full-featured application to upload files to the internet, which just got a lot of better and is about to be used by a lot more users.

There’s a Windows version in the works, that’s true, and a beta is launching later this month. You can read the details here and also take a look at the first screenshots; for what it’s worth, the Windows UI looks pretty clean. Down to our Mac business, the new version introduces support for Google Storage (go sign up here), a refined dashboard interface with awesome new icons, support for S3 Bucket versioning and new Google Docs features.

Sneak Peek: Sketch, Vector Drawing App by Bohemian Coding

Bohemian Coding is well known for pushing beautiful pixels and releasing great software, both for Mac and iOS. Fontcase is one of the best font management tools for the desktop. Review app, which Raj reviewed here, is turning out to be one of the most useful for designers and developers. Sketchpad was one of the first vector drawing apps to come out on the iPad months ago, and it’s still doing great in the charts. Pieter Omvlee, Bohemian Coding designer and dev, knows how to make great apps. Read more

Want iTunes 9 Look Back? There’s A Mod For That.

I haven’t covered OS X graphical mods here on MacStories for a long time, but this one’s good. It didn’t take long: if you hate iTunes 10’s new UI or you simply want the old colorful iTunes back, give a try to Damien Erambert’s iTunes 109.

The download comes with an easy to setup installer package which lets you choose if you want to change the entire application UI or just the sidebar icons. You can also get rid of those odd vertical buttons and change the application icon. I applied the mod on my new iMac, and it worked perfectly. Courier App: Share Files To Your Favorite Services. Reviewed.

In the past I reviewed many applications for Mac to upload and share files on the internet. Applications such as Droplr, Cloud or Fileshuttle allow you to quickly select files (or URLs) on your desktop and upload them to remote servers (in Fileshuttle’s case, even your own server) to share a short link with your friends or colleagues later. Those are handy apps that help you saving a lot of time when you need to upload any kind of file. Cloud App is very popular among Mac users, and it’s been running on my Mac for a quite a while, too.

But Courier is different. It’s not an application that lets you quickly upload files to third-party services, it’s a great-looking tool that allows you to send files to popular services you’re already subscribed to like Youtube, Vimeo, Facebook and Flickr. It looks beautiful, it works great. It’s the new application from Realmac Software.

iPliz for Mac Controls your Files via Email

It’s always best to have a backup plan. It’s one of those days; you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, you’re late for class, and in the process of scrambling to hike the mile across campus, you forgot to save a copy of your report to your netbook. Just imagine for a minute how bad this actually is: you forget to save a file in Dropbox, stuff your thumb drive into your backpack, or even email yourself a copy of that fifty five page college thesis all at the same time. That report amounts to 50% of your grade, and you can’t return to your dorm out without being late to only the most important session of the semester. So what do you do?

Most people would panic, but being the Mac savvy connoisseur that you are, you pull out that fancy netbook of yours and email yourself with the name of your report. In seconds, you’re sending commands between your email client and your Mac that allow you to find the file, upload it to your current machine, and print it out in the nick of time. iPliz is a niche application for users who don’t employ the best backup strategies, but the ability to email your Mac for files is just cool.

Courier: Great New Mac App from Realmac Coming Soon

Courier is an awesome new app from Realmac Software (which I’m lucky enough to have already tested) set to come out on OS X “in about a week”. Or at least that’s what the teaser website says.

I can’t really say what the app does yet, but as you can see in the video (embedded below, together with the final icon) support for websites like Youtube, Vimeo and Flickr will be part of the application. All I can say is that Courier is great, and will probably turn out to be one of the best apps released on Mac this year.
