myPhoneDesktop Extension Puts The iPhone in Chrome

I talked about myPhoneDesktop 1.5 for iPhone and iPad a few hours ago, and here comes a dedicated Chrome extension to force me to cover the app once again. This extension is simple and powerful: all you have to do is sign in through the web interface and start sending links, pictures or text to your device.

The extension supports multiple copied items at once: if you try to send a link, text and image at the same time you’ll be asked if you want to keep the extension window active to select the items you want to forward to the iPhone. It’s really great, and it lets you speed up your workflow by not needing to use a standalone desktop application.

It’s the perfect companion to myPhoneDesktop for iPhone and iPad. Go download it here. Read more

Portfolio To Go Is A Simple Flickr Client for iPad & iPhone

Just when I thought I was done with mobile Flickr clients (ok, they’re not as popular as Twitter client, but they’re popular) here comes a new app I’ve just discovered forcing me to re-enter my Yahoo! credentials all over again. Portfolio To Go is a rather minimal and simple which, once given permissions to access your account, lets you quickly check on your profile and photosets. All you get is a “wall” main screen, where you can see all your photos organized in sets, and you also get nice thumbnail previews. Read more

myPhoneDesktop 1.5: Still My Favorite Browser-to-iPhone App

When it comes to quickly sharing any kind of information between my desktop browser and the iPhone, I have one and only favorite tool of choice: myPhoneDesktop. What this app does is simple, yet effective: it allows you to share links, text, images, phone numbers and maps from your browser to the iPhone (or iPad, it’s universal) in seconds. You hit a button (of course, you have to create a mPD account first), and boom - you get a notification on the phone. Read more

iPad Users Getting Full Google Docs Mobile Editing

Together with the announcement that more than 3 million business have gone Google, the search giant has also confirmed that iPad users will get full mobile Google Docs editing soon. No release date for the new feature has been announced yet.

Right now, if you try to log in Docs from your iPad you only get a viewing interface - so this is great news for anyone who uses Google Docs (like us) every day. Read more

Apple, The Next Step Is AirFiles

I installed iOS 4.2 beta on my iPad, but haven’t been able to check out the new AirPlay or AirPrint features yet: I don’t have an Apple Airport Express station to configure with my stereo, nor I have a compatible HP printer in the office. Still, I know these two new features pretty well: AirPlay is Apple’s take on how you should be able to consume digital content in the living room, AirPrint allows you to print documents from your iPad and iPhone with a few taps. Both of them are great features. I want to focus on AirPlay, though: as Seth Weintraub puts it, AirPlay is Apple’s “go to market” strategy - in a way that this single feature will let users easily hook their iPhones and iPads to the Apple TV to effortlessly share SD content, and eventually pay for HD versions using Apple’s TV own rental system. Any kind of video content can be streamed using AirPlay, as long as it uses a standard media controller and it’s encoded using the popular H.264 video format.

I haven’t tried it personally, but I already know AirPlay is going to be huge amongst iPad and iPhone owners once the new Apple TV will be available. This kind of one-tap streaming and sharing of content between devices has got me thinking, though: what if Apple shipped “AirFiles”, a built-in system to share any kind of documents across mobile devices and computers?
