A Beautiful TV Guide For Your iPhone and iPad

I’m thankful for the possibilities offered by today’s technologies, which allow me to ditch the old ways of doing…stuff for more pleasant, rich, interactive and beautiful experiences. Apple’s devices and apps in the App Store surely played a great role in this digital revolution: we don’t buy specific items anymore because there’s an app for that. The last time you bought a radio player? An actual map? A point & shoot camera? Exactly.

Still, there was no “last time” for me when it comes to TV guides. I never bought those magazines that offered monthly and weekly views and summaries of what would be in television – I  just checked TV programming on the internet. Or on my local newspaper. But now I’m ready to step my game up, with an app simply called “TV” and available at .99 cents in the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It’s uncluttered, beautiful, elegant and, finally, it’s something that deeply integrates a TV guide with the information coming from the internet.

TV for iOS provides a quick and clever way to select a TV provider, check on the channel and browse TV shows. When you tap on a TV show you can see the details of the upcoming episode, but tap again and the app will display related news, info and video about the entire show found on the internet. For instance, it fetches the full episode list, Wikipedia entries, Youtube videos and recent blog stories about the show.

In order to use TV app, you have to sign in with a social service so that your TV provider preferences and location information can be restored at any time. The app lets you sign in with Twitter, Facebook and AOL, among others, and prior to using it you’ll have to enter your ZIP code and select your current provider and plan. After that, you’ll be ready to use the app and start filtering shows by theme or date. A timeline at the bottom of the screen lets you quickly select a day of the week, while a bar at the top contains the different categories you may want to filter.

You can scroll through the timeline also by swiping on the main interface, and additional panels for TV shows can be dismissed with another swipe to the right. It’s all very intuitive and simple.

I’m impressed by the quality of this .99 cents application. Not only it runs smoothly on the iPad and iPhone 4, it also comes with a polished interface and lots of options to gather details, info and videos about the TV shows you care about. Available in the App Store here, give it a try.
