Engadget Speculates on Verizon iPwn (iPhone)

Oh boy. These are always the rumors that set me off. Forget my rant against Flash, the issue about the Verizon iPhone is always a bothersome one. And it’s not because I care what networks the iPhone is on (I would prefer it was everywhere), but because people think the coming of the iPhone to Verizon is going to usher in a golden era of network usability - to which I disagree (if all the AT&T users jumped on Verizon, Verizon’s not going to fare any better). But that’s for another post. For now, we’ve got rumors. And those of you on Verizon who can take advantage of upgrades and all that fancy jazz, you might be happy to hear that the iPhone might be finally coming to Verizon in CDMA (and maybe) LTE fashion this summer. Maybe. Kinda.

GlobeConvert Pro: Beautiful Converter App for iPad

Of all the utilities I have installed on my iPhone, one of the most used is iCurrency Pad, which I reviewed some months ago here. It’s a great looking converter app that helps me in converting USD to Euros and vice versa, with exchange rates updated in real time and nice graphs that give me a brief overview of what’s changed between the two currencies over time. The app is useful and beautiful, but it only converts, you know, money and since I bought my iPad I began looking for some new app that would allow me to convert multiple measures in a single interface, possibly as great looking as iCurrency’s one.

Fortunately, I found the perfect app for me: GlobeConvert Pro.

CBS Goes HTML5 For The iPad

Anthony Soohoo of CBS.com has confirmed that the company will start serving iPad-compatible HTML5 video streaming through their official website by this fall. This is great news, and CBS is clearly seeing the iPad as the platform to invest on, together with other networks such as the ABC (which has developed a native app for it) or the CW network, which has an iPad ready website.

“It’s still early days, but Soohoo expects CBS to deploy more and more video that is iPad-ready, until it reaches content parity with what’s available on the website through a PC.

As for why CBS decided to go with a web video strategy, rather than an app strategy, Soohoo said, “When we were looking at the iPad as a separate device, it had a lot more similarities to a PC in our mind… So for us, we wanted to make sure that video was available through HTML5 on the iPad first.”

Winterboard for iPad Available In Cydia

We posted a screenshot a few hours ago, and now Winterboard for iPad is finally available in Cydia.

All you have to do is search for Winterboard in Cydia, install it and reboot the device. If you experience weird problems with the springboard looking like a huge iPod Touch, just respring using SBSettings. There aren’t iPad-specific themes available yet, but you can play with the existing ones and see which ones play fine with the iPad UI. Of course, expect some native iPad Winterboard themes coming soon in Cydia.

Check out the screenshots after the break.

Some people don’t necessarily need everything and the kitchen sink in their task management apps. The problem with the iPhone is that it’s really easy to get bogged down on such a small screen. Adding tasks shouldn’t be a chore. In fact, Taskly makes getting your life organized simple.

Taking The iPad Back to 1984, With a Classic Calculator

Is there something cooler than Apple in his glory days of rebellion back in the ’80s? Is there even someone cooler than Steve Jobs back when he was 30? I have the answer, maybe: what about taking today’s technology back to those days? Like, an iPad with a classic 1984 calculator?

I’m telling you, this thing is completely unnecessary, and if you look closer - it’s awful. But for the Apple Vs Big Brother geek in you, it’s an awesome calculator that puts the Mac OS’ classic graphic style on the iPad, for $0.99 in the App Store.

And bought.
