Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach for iPad Available

If you like Gorillaz, own Plastic Beach and happen to have a magical iPad as well, then this game is for you.

9to5mac:

“In the game your job is to get the album of the same name recorded. To achieve this you are band leader, Murdoc, and your job is to fly around on the ‘Doom Glider’ shooting things and avoiding stuff. You get all the music from the album and rather spiffing Jamie Hewlett graphics.”

Go download the app here.

Apple Launches “Newsstand” and “Radio” Sections in the App Store

So here we are again, talking about new sections Apple has introduced in the App Store. Newsstand and Radio, available here and here, feature applications to, ehm, read news and listen to online radios. Apps such as NYT, Instapaper, Reeder and Pandora, Last.fm and Sirius XM are in there.

Now I’m wondering: how long before a section that showcases apps optimized for the Retina Display? I’m tired of browsing AppShopper for that.

iLife ‘11 Coming on August 7th with New “Mystery” App?

Here’s one of those rumors you wake up in the morning with and can’t stop thinking about for the whole day. It’s a rumor, so be careful with the excitement.

Mac4ever reports that iLife ‘11 will be released on August 7th with a huge set of new features including a “mistery new application”, full 64-bit support and MobileMe integration.

- ILife ‘11 will be sold for $79

- Release Date of 08/07/2010

- All applications will be 64-bit

- Improvements in iPhoto faces & places

- Improving the integration of social networks

- IWeb will be totally renewed

- New application (mystery!)

- Disappearance of iDVD

- MobileMe gallery in beta (with faces & places)

Should we believe that? Sure some options sound very likely. As MacRumors also points out, the latest version of iLife (‘09) was announced at Macworld SF 2009. So, I guess it’s time for a brand new shiny version.

Audiobox.fm iPhone App Approved - Your Cloud Music Goes Mobile

Audiobox.fm is a great online music service I reviewed a while ago while it was in its early stages of development. The developers are based in Italy, and this - compared to the fact that the service was very promising - couldn’t make me happier. During these months the developers have been working hard on improving the reliability, UI and accessibility of the app, and it shows. It’s almost a new webapp, with a redesigned dashboard interface and lots of more options, plans and extra apps.

Among these apps the iPhone client, which has been approved by Apple and it’s now available for free in the App Store.

Things Touch 1.6 Available: Retina Graphics, Multitasking - Still No OTA Sync

Things, the award winning application by Cultured Code to “get things done”, was updated last night to include support for the Retina Display, iOS 4 multitasking, local notifications and Textexpander Touch. The 1.6 update still doesn’t come with OTA (over the air) sync though.

Anyway, the app now looks great on the iPhone 4 display and allows you to keep in the background and quickly come back to it. As for local notifications, they’re pretty useful as they don’t require a server to work. (just like Omnifocus).

Check out the release notes below. Now, it’s up to Cultured Code to implement a great OTA sync feature in the next update. The project is at full speed now. Things Touch is available at $9.99 in the App Store.

Life Web Browser 1.1 Released, Worth A Try Again

I reviewed Life Web Browser for iPad last month and pointed out that while the idea was good, the developers needed to focus on stability and speed improvements, big fixes and tweaks to the user experience. That’s exactly what they’ve been doing for the past 24 days, “even without sleeping”. Actually, I quite believe it.

The new 1.1 version features an all new core memory management system, one of the biggest disappointments in the first release. The app felt slow and clunky sometimes, now it’s much smoother. Other features include a better state saving, keyboard tweaks, queue improvements.

The app is available at $1.99, a fairly good price for the innovative way of browsing the internet on the iPad the app carries along. Go download it here, check out the presentation video and full 1.1 changelog after the break.
