Tripmix, Music Blocks made Easy

In North Carolina, my respective radio station is 106.5 The End (link might contain NSFW content). And while I don’t know too many people who still listen to their local radio stations, I’m a huge fan, thus the shameless plug (and the window sticker). Occasionally they’ll have a block party weekend, where they’ll play two or three songs by the same artist in a row, and it’s a format I really love. But now when I travel, I can have a block party weekend wherever I go with Tripmix.

Tripmix is genuinely old school, and it’s something that looks fantastic propped in my truck. While this sounds either dorky or redneck as hell, Tripmix is a digital replication of an old 8-track car deck. And who doesn’t want an 8-track player in their Prius? Joking asides, this app replicates playing a few songs by an artist before flipping the deck and cycling through another set of songs by a different artist. The concept is simple, and the amount of songs played per artist can be changed from one to ten. I think the default is three, which if fine by me.

The interface is indeed quite beautiful. The time ticks away as you play your music, reminding you how long you’ve been on the open road. A minor gripe is that if I’m suppose to play or fast forward music while driving, the buttons shouldn’t be so small. Nit pick aside, it’s just what you expect - an old school interface packaged neatly inside your favorite iPhone or iPod touch.

For only $1.99 in the iTunes App Store, you too can have a simple music player that shuffles mixes of music with a press of the play button. It’s not about changing songs every five seconds (damn kids these days) or satellite radio - it’s just you, the music, and maybe a little Tripmix.
