Fotopedia Heritage 3.0: Instant Slideshows, Suggestions, iOS 4.2 Support

Fotopedia Heritage is one of those iOS apps (universal, free) that keeps on getting better on each release. First they released a 1.0 version that aimed at becoming the digital encyclopedia for humanity. Version 2.0 added support for the Retina Display, 25,000 more photos and shuffle mode. Today, with the release of Fotopedia 3.0, the developers re-imagined the app from the ground up and redesigned the whole experience to make it more intuitive, fast and beautiful.

Fotopedias Heritage now has an homepage (sort of reminds me of Flipboard) that allows you to resume your previous “journey” (session), start an instant slideshow and browse smart suggestions. Smart suggestions let you discover amazing new places based, I guess, on your previous likes and shared items. At the bottom of the homepage, there’s a “Other Fotopedia Publications” sections that enables you to preview a paid version of Fotopedia (called “National Parks”) that comes with 3,000 additional photos.

My favorite feature of this new version is Instant Slideshows. With the tap of a button, the app will start displaying beautiful photography (there are some settings to play with to adjust the slideshow time) you can stop at any time. Tap, choose “stops” and get a more detailed view of the photo. You can share or save as a wallpaper, mark as favorite, open a “more info” panel, shuffle and search for specific locations in the world.

Fotopedia Heritage is free and it’s a must-have for iPhone and iPad owners. Especially on the tablet, it offers a way to browse and admire beautiful photos with a clean and useful interface.
