Jailbroken iPads Get an Application Switcher, Circuitous

One of the best things about jailbreak is the possibility to enable true multitasking and install application switchers, pretty much like those ones you can have on Mac OS X and Windows PCs. On jailbroken iPhones you can install Pro Switcher, an amazing tool by Ryan Petrich which allows you to quickly switch between apps running in the background. Unfortunately, Pro Switcher is not ready for the iPad yet, although we’ve heard rumors of a private beta floating around.

Pro Switcher isn’t the only application switcher worth giving a try though: Circuitous,a  quite popular extension for the iPhone, has been updated to the 2.0 version and it’s now iPad-compatible.

Tweetie for Mac Update Coming This Month

Ever since Twitter acquired Loren Brichter’s Tweetie, we all wondered what was going to happen to Tweetie for Mac - the most popular Twitter client on Mac OS X. Then Twitter platform / API head Ryan Sarver confirmed with a post on the official development group that they had acquired the Mac version as well as part of the deal with Loren. That was a huge relief, as we all feared that with new job Loren could drop the development of his great Mac app.

Then Twitter announced they would discontinue Basic Auth support by the end of June and we all figured - well, Tweetie for Mac is going to be updated and we’ll keep using it. Developers started updating their clients to work with OAuth, but Tweetie for Mac was standing still. We kept hoping. Weeks passed by.

On June 1st, we freaked out. The Month of Judgement came and Tweetie for Mac was still based on Basic Auth. “Where the hell is my OAuth Tweetie?”, someone wrote.

Guys, chill. Tweetie for Mac is going to be updated later this month.

iPad Web Usage Passes iPod Touch and Android Combined

According to the latest NetMarketShare numbers, the iPad web usage has already surpassed the iPod Touch. In just two months and with more than two million units sold, it turns out that there a lot of iPads browsing the internet. But there’s even more: it seems like the iPad has also passed the web usage of all Android devices together.

One might say that the iPad is actually meant for browsing and everything, but the one word that comes in my mind is: Impressive.

Follow WWDC 2010 Keynote Live on MacStories

If you’ve been living under a giant iPod Touch for the past three months, you might need to know that the WWDC is officially kicking off in 3 days, with a keynote from Apple CEO Steve Jobs on June 7th. The expectations are very high, considering that a new iPhone will be announced (and made available the same day, many blogs are reporting) and much other iPhone OS-related goodness will be shown.

It’s gonna be a great event, and we’re sure Steve will be able to make it even better.
