Meet Cloudette, A Free CloudApp Client for iPhone

Together with Dropbox, CloudApp is another tool I couldn’t work without anymore. Originally developed as Mac-only sharing utility by the Linebreak guys, CloudApp eventually evolved to have a full-featured web interface and an API for developers to plug into and create unofficial clients. Thanks to this integration with 3rd party applications, some great pieces of software like Courier for Mac, Weet and Prizmo for iPhone gained CloudApp uploading capabilities. Not to mention Cloud2Go, the first unofficial (and paid) CloudApp client for iPhone.

Official Google Voice App in Store Soon?

According to a report at TechCrunch, the official Google Voice app has been approved and could arrive in the Store sometime soon. It comes no surprise, last week GV Mobile + and GV Connect were both approved, which are 3rd party Google Voice applications.

In July 2009, Apple blocked the application from the App Store so Google created a web app version of Google Voice, like they have done with many of their other browser-based services. On September 9, 2010, Apple posted guidelines telling developers which applications wouldn’t be allowed into the App Store, and there was no mention of Google Voice. Soon after, the aforementioned apps were approved. Read more

iPhone 4, Telescope and the Moon

Astronomy geeks, this one’s for you. Grab your iPhone, and a Celestron NexStar (or comparable telescope) and you can capture the moon like photographer Douglas Sonders did. “I was playing with my uncle’s new telescope this weekend and managed to get the above image of the moon using my iPhone 4 and holding it to the eyepiece of the scope. Apple, Mobile Phone Profit Analysis

Asymco has posted an interesting story/graph on the analysis of mobile phone profits. Horace Dediu writes, “if the available profit (i.e. excluding losses) were summed and each vendor’s profit were measured as a percent of this total, this chart would tell the story of the last three years.” Read more

iPhone As A Wallet with Visa payWave

I’ve been dreaming about an “iPhone as wallet” for years now. Apple patents are not enough, I want the real thing: I want to ditch these cards and papers I still have in my pocket. For God’s sake, it’s 2010 we’re talking about. New Yorkers are closer than us to the real thing: thanks to the newly introduced payWave system by Visa, they can now pay train, subway and bus fares using their iPhone.

You fire up the Visa app, “slide to pay” to initiate the payment process, wave the phone over a compatible reader and you’re done. You’ve paid for something in the real word with a digital paper-free device. Antennagate Is Alive, And It’s Helping Apple Sell More iPhones

Today I went to an Apple Store with my friends and girlfriend. I live in Viterbo, so we had to drive to Rome’s “Roma EST” Apple Store, which is a 90 minutes drive. I wanted to buy an Airport Express to use with AirPlay (and eventually came home with a KeepItClean MacBook cleaner spray, too), a friend wanted to get a 17-inch MacBook Pro. We had a great time, just like every time we go to that Apple Store. Customer experience quality is top-notch.

This is not the point, though. The last time I went to that Apple Store was in May, and the iPhone 4 wasn’t out yet. Today was the first visit after the iPhone 4 release and all the “Antennagate” media mess. Today’s visit made me realize Antennagate is still alive and kicking, but it’s actually helping Apple sell more iPhone 4s. Read more
