Just as promised last week, the Dev Team released a few minutes ago a new version of carrier unlocking tool ultrasn0w that now works with iOS 4.2.1. The updated tool, however, won’t work with the iPhone 4 due to baseband optimizations performed by Apple. So basically, this version of ultrasn0w only works for iPhone 3G and 3GS owners running iOS 4.2.1 and willing to unlock their phones. Read more

Soon, You’ll Be Able To Control Chopper 2 for Mac With Your iPhone
A few weeks ago we saw the first screenshots of the next version of The Incident, which will allow you to mirror the game on your TV and control it with your iPhone. Admittedly, the iPhone can serve as a great “external” controller, even better than when you’re using it to control and play at the same time because you don’t have the actual game covered by your fingers. With a small multi-touch surface in your hands, the possibilities for TV gaming are endless.
The next version of Chopper for Mac, Chopper 2, will allow for a similar setup, although the TV isn’t involved this time. Instead, Chopper 2 will let you pair your iPhone with your Mac and control the game on your computer using the accelerometer and multi-touch technology on your iPhone. The demo video below gives you a brief preview of what’s coming, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Mac games that will be published in the Mac App Store will take advantage of this pairing technology or not.
What’s for sure is, the iPhone can be a great game controller. Read more

The Glif: Now Available
Small, simple, and elegant. That’s what we were going for when we created the Glif. But out of this simple design emerges countless uses. Mount your iPhone 4 to a tripod for taking great pictures or making movies. Prop your iPhone up for hands-free FaceTiming or to watch videos.
The tripod mount and stand for the iPhone 4 we’ve come to know and love. You can have one for 20 bucks, and shipping begins in 2-3 weeks.
The Cartographer Brings Beautiful Vintage Maps To The iPhone
They say art is about the details, and geeks say the same about Apple’s products. Are Apple’s gadgets and computers a new form of art then? I don’t know, but sure they are an example of excellent industrial design that meets consumers’ tastes and needs. So what could ever happen if art as we know it joined Apple’s design as an app for the iPhone?
I’m pretty sure something like The Cartographer for iPhone would happen. A simple app that turns Google Maps into a beautiful experience based on the maps that once were. Read more

DisplayOut and FullForce Now iOS 4.2.1 Compatible | Cydia
As tweeted by developer Ryan Petrich a few hours ago, popular Cydia tweaks FullForce (which allows you to scale iPhone apps for the iPad’s larger screen, something we covered when the first iPad jailbreak came out) and DisplayOut (which mirrors the iPhone’s screen on a TV using a VGA cable) have been updated to support iOS 4.2.1.
DisplayOut is available at $2.99 in the Cydia Store. We highly recommend it as it’s the best tweak currently available to, say, show off an iPhone app on a bigger screen or external monitor.
Single-Station Radio Apps Are The New Fart Apps: Banned
Remember the App Store Review Guidelines Apple published a few months ago? They’re available for you to read here, although an Apple Developer account is needed. Basically, Apple opened up to many more kinds of apps and frameworks with the publicly available Review Guidelines, but took a clear position on some kinds of apps as well. Namely, fart apps:
We have over 250,000 apps in the App Store. We don’t need any more Fart apps. If your app doesn’t do something useful or provide some form of lasting entertainment, it may not be accepted.
Calvetica 3.0→
Calvetica 3.0
Great update to what I consider the best alternative calendar app for iPhone. Calvetica Calendar 3.0 comes with a grid week view, possibility to add attendees, improved dates on agenda view and several bug fixes. Seriously, just go buy it.
UberTwitter For iPhone Reminds Us Why We Didn’t Pick A BlackBerry In The First Place
Every day, 10 million tweets are sent using UberTwitter for BlackBerry handsets. Enterprise folks tweet with it (but please remind me why the business dudes tweet, I think I’m missing something here), celebrities tweet with it, the developers were so happy with the popularity of UberTwitter for BlackBerry that they decided to port it to the iPhone.
Now, I’m not usually huge on app portings from one platform to another. I don’t like developers who are successful on the iPhone and convert an app to Android without considering Android’s nature, and I had the same feeling when I heard of UberTwitter for iPhone this morning.
Indeed my feeling was correct. The app is simply ugly, and doesn’t feel right on the iPhone. It tries to be an iPhone app, but I stopped caring the moment I saw floating controls above a web view and a split view badly squeezed on the iPhone’s screen. It feels wrong most of the times.
UberTwitter for iPhone might be huge brand-wise, but it’s not really a great app at all. If you feel like trying something new this morning though, or you simply want to be reminded why you switched from BlackBerry last year, the app is available here. Press release embedded below.
