Apple’s New iPad 2 Commercial: “If You Asked”

If you asked a child, she might call it magic. And if you asked us, we’d say it’s just getting started.

Apple just posted a new iPad 2 commercial which, following the lead of the first one posted last month, is aimed at showcasing the various functionalities of the product. The iPad 2 is being promoted as an inspiring device for musicians, a “groundbreaking” tool for doctors, or a powerful machine for a CEO. Again, Apple shoots for simplicity, elegance and minimalism in these new iPad 2 commercials. The iPad 2 sure is lighter and thinner than its predecessor, but it’s all about the software when it comes down to the experience. This is what they believe.

Amazon Takes Another Swing at Apple with New Kindle Commercial

Amazon released another Kindle commercial today, titled “The book lives on”, which is – again – clearly targeting the issues with the iPad as an eBook reader. Just like in the first commercial posted months ago, Amazon points out you can’t read books in direct sunlight on the iPad because of screen glare – something the Kindle addresses with its digital ink paper-like technology.

The latest commercial, however, showcases more features than direct-sunlight reading. The Kindle is touted as a lighter device with battery life “up to a month”, is being used by people in their mid twenties / thirties (Apple’s typical userbase) and has access to more than 800,000 books available in the Kindle Store. Last, the commercial is backed up by a catchy pop song that’s very similar to Apple’s usual commercial strategy. It’s a very nice commercial if you ask me, but I do see a trend here.

Check out the video below. In the meantime, Apple is rumored to introduce a Kindle-like display technology for a better reading experience in the iPad 2. [via TechCrunch] Read more

“The Daily” Super Bowl Commercial [Video]

In case you missed it a few minutes ago, here’s the commercial News Corp. ran during the XLV Super Bowl to promote its iPad-only newspaper, The Daily. The ad is admittedly cool and nicely animated, too bad we’ve seen the app is nowhere near the fluidness from the video below. If The Daily was as fast and stable and snappy as the app from this ad, it would be perfect.

Nice commercial, but we’re still waiting for a better app. Read more

AT&T’s New iPhone Commercial Is About Old Tricks

With Verizon airing minimal yet emotionally powerful iPhone commercials to feature the product (they don’t even have to mention the name “iPhone” in the ads) that’s launching on their network on February 10th, you’d think AT&T would come up with something of a little more impact than the usual “talk and surf the web at the same time” story.

Well, apparently they still think that’s all they can have in their commercials. Personally, I think that while it’s incredibly cool to be able to have a phone call and use a browser at the same time, I can’t remember a single situation where I found myself needing to do that. It’s cool and it’s there, but it’s old stuff we know and, quite possibly, never used as much as AT&T wants us to.

As 9to5mac says, maybe it’s too late. Read more

Motorola Prepares Another Jab at Apple with Super Bowl Commercial

It looks like Motorola is back to its usual business of launching commercials with clear and direct pokes at Apple’s products. After the “giant iPhone” argument for the iPad, here comes a teaser of the ad Motorola will run during Super Bowl for its upcoming Honeycomb tablet, the Xoom.

The ad / teaser, called “Goodbye 1984”, says:

2011 looks a lot like 1984. One authority. One design. One way to work.

It’s time for more choices. It’s time to explore. It’s time to live a free life.

In the video, you can see planet Earth wearing Apple-white earbuds slowly fading from colors to black & white. The “one design” and “one authority” Motorola mentions is an obvious reference to the popular Super Bowl commercial Apple ran in 1984, quite possibility the most famous tech commercial of all time. Tech specs of the Xoom are presented in the ad, like Android Honeycomb support, 5 MP camera and 3G connectivity upgradable to 4G.

AT&T and Verizon Finally Together In Apple’s New Ad

So Apple has a new iPhone 4 coming out on February 10 in the U.S., under Verizon’s network. We guess you know everything about it at this point. Well, Apple wants you to take a look at the big picture: iPhone on two carriers is better than iPhone on one carrier. It’s pure and simple Jobsian mathematical art. The iPhone 4 on Big Red and AT&T is something worth launching a new commercial for.

Or, as a commenter on Youtube says, “AT&T and Verizon both in the same commercial? I’m surprised the universe didn’t explode.”

Indeed, think about 3 months ago when this was all rumors.
