Transport App: Easy iPad / iPhone File Sharing From Your Mac

How do you share files on the Internet? Do you use a Mac app like the recently released Cloud, or you chose to stick with the good old Droplr? Maybe you just use a web service to share pictures and shorten links, ‘cause you’re not really into this file sharing thing. Either way, you want to keep everything simple and straightforward and have your files shared just fine across multiple devices so that your online fellows can access it anywhere. I understand your position, you don’t want to spend too much time searching for the right app for you, so you’re still sticking with emails to send links and PDFs to your collaborators. What an old way to accomplish tasks.

The app we’re going to talk about today is called Transport, woks for both iPhone and iPad (it’s a Universal app), and allows you to quickly upload and share files from your Mac to your portable devices.

Like I said, Transport is very simple: all you have to do to set it up is create an online account (requires a valid email address and password), download the lightweight client for Mac, download the app for free from the App Store. So, basically, you have this app running in the menubar which lets you either upload files from the Finder and take a screen grab with a special hotkey that goes straight into the cloud. Same applies for Finder items: select one, hit the shortcut and it goes online.

What differentiates Transport from its “competitors” is that every time you upload something you’re given a bit.ly short URL that you can use to a) access the file and b) share the new upload with your friends. The file goes to Transport’s servers, and it’s up to you if you want to share the link or not. The iPad and iPhone apps are just as simple as the service itself: as you can see from the screenshots, you can only see the files you’ve previously uploaded and see them. I uploaded a PDF, and I can read it from my iPad just fine.

And that’s it for Transport, it doesn’t do anything else than what I’ve mentioned, but it does it well. If you have very basic needs when it comes to simple file uploading and sharing, or you just like the idea of having, say, your documents always available across your devices, look no further than Transport app.
