After months of wait, rejections, government’s involvement and third party applications, the official Google Voice app for iPhone is now available. You can find it here, and it’s free. We saw this coming after Apple published the updated App Store Review Guidelines.
The client basically allows you to access your Google Voice account right from your iPhone, and it allows you to make calls through the standard phone app. You can receive push notifications for text and voicemail messages, listen to voicemails and read Google’s transcripts or just manage your whole Google Voice inbox.
The app also integrates with the iPhone’s Address Book and features a dialpad you can use to compose new numbers. There’s no full phone app integration, meaning that you’ll still be forced to open the Google Voice app to use the service. You can’t just “put” Google Voice inside Apple’s phone app. Incoming calls will come through Apple’s phone app as well.
If you live in the U.S. and you’re a Google Voice user who own an iPhone, this is great news for you. Go download the app here.
