Apple Updates iWork Suite for iPad With Bug Fixes
Earlier today Apple issued an update for the entire iWork suite for iPad (which includes Pages, Numbers and Keynote) to address bugs found in version 1.3, released in November.
The minor 1.3.1 update for all the three apps of the suite fixes an issue with the predictive text menu when using Chinese or Japanese characters; Numbers for iPad went under a deeper bug-fixing procedure with a resolved crash due to Region Format in the Settings and the inability to save cells when the app was quit and restarted.

Cydia Adds Ability to Easily View All Your Past Purchases
Cydia, the App Store equivalent for all those jailbreak required apps that Apple has or would deny, has just received a handy new feature that allows you to view in one place all the packages that you have purchased from the Cydia store.
Jay Freeman, creator of Cydia has been working hard in recent months to improving Cydia in many ways from decreasing the all to common “Reloading” times, improving the polish and adding new features. This new feature has been a fairly common suggestion not only for Cydia but the App Store too, which whilst present in the Mac App Store has yet to reach iOS App Store - something which those of us at Macstories are hopeful Apple will add in the near future.

Next Generation iPad May Have Proximity Sensor
The next generation iPad may gain additional superpowers as it automatically powers on when you lift your case’s cover.
A new string spotted in iOS 4.3 reveals that Apple may be sweating the small stuff to perfect the user experience in the latest update: one particular item notes that the future iPad may have the capability to turn its screen on and off when a cover is removed and applied. The assumption is that you’ll want to open Apple’s case to access the iPad, so why not turn it and on and off for you without having to hit the power button? The Brazilian iPhone Blog notes that this feature would be accessible via the Settings app, where it can be enabled and disabled per your preference. The current iPad does have an ambient light sensor, but the proximity sensor would further refine its environmental awareness in respect to accessories.

DesignScene: An Inspiration Browser For Graphic Designers
It’s hard not to be inspired from others in the community who started with virtually no experience, and end up building really great utilities for the iPad. Roger Wong and his code partner David Wheeler took arms in 2010 to build an iPad app worthy of being featured as an “App of the Week” on the App Store. The year long development process from HTML junkie to a decorated iPad developer has ended with the fruition of DesignScene, the graphic designer’s browser for finding inspiration on the social web. Some would believe this is a new clone of Flipboard, but I’ll be quick to dismiss that having read Roger’s motivational backstory. Hard work pays off, and again I’m reminded of Mike Rundle’s “be curious” recommendation to success.
DesignScene is very cool, and I’ve been personally looking for something that was purely focused on art and discovering new content. Featuring over thirty sites, DesignScene pulls in regularly updated feeds to provide you with the freshest content from around the web.

iPad Pinches Almost 90% of Third Quarter Tablet Shipments
The world’s media tablet market grew an astounding 45% in the third quarter of 2010, says the International Data Corporation (IDC). And what magical device is getting the credit? The iPad of course. Apple’s iPad was the force behind the growing demand.
According to IDC’s figures, vendors shipped almost 5 million units worldwide in the third quarter of 2010. The second quarter shipped over 3 million units, with the iPad steering almost 88% of tablets shipped. Read more

Happy Politicians with iPads In German Parliament [Photos]
In October, we reported that the German parliament lifted the ban on tablets and announced members were allowed to replace papers with Apple’s iPad. Today, German newspaper Spiegel posted photos of iPads in action in the Bundestag, and is reporting nearly every member of the Parliament has adopted an Apple iPad. Chancellor Angela Merkel was the first one to get an iPad during her trip to California last year, and after her several others got one, which comes free of charge with refunds from the German government. Sounds like a deal.
Unsurprisingly, the iPad’s form factor seems to be the most important aspect among members of the Bundestag: the screen makes it easy to send and read emails, browse the web and quickly check on documents. According to the Spiegel, the iPad “looks like it was made for the Parliament”.
The fact that Saarland’s premier Peter Müller was spotted playing chess on his tablet during a meeting doesn’t come as a surprise either. With an iPad in your hands and access to thousands of apps, it’s hard to resist the temptation of games, like Angry Birds and well, chess.
