MacStories Giveaway: Win A Copy of Screens for iPhone & iPad

Screens is an excellent new VNC client by Edovia which, unlike other similar apps in the App Store, it’s not aimed at letting you move a cursor on your computer through the iPhone and iPad. It’s an app specifically meant to take advantage of the platform it runs on – iOS – so that you can actually touch your computer remotely.

From my review:

The “simple approach” doesn’t stop at touch controls, however. Once you’re controlling OS X on your device and you’d like to do some actual stuff with it, Screens offer two separate keyboards to execute most of the commands you know and love on the Mac. The first keyboard is a standard iOS keyboard with an additional bar on top which allows you to navigate using the arrow keys, or press Mac-only keys like Command and Control. Those buttons stay pressed until you tap on them again — useful. The second keyboard, though, is much more functional: it contains the same Mac-only and arrow keys on top, but there are no letters at the bottom. Instead, you get these “action buttons” that let you perform tasks that would require a series of taps and dialogue boxes instead. For instance, you can cut, copy, minimize, log out and activate Spolight with a single tap. Huge time saver.

We have 5 copies of Screens to give away to lucky MacStories readers. Check out the giveaway rules below (it ends tomorrow!), and if you can’t wait the app is available here. Read more

MacStories Giveaway: Win A Copy of djay for iPad and Mac

djay by Algoriddim is an excellent music making / mixing software for OS X that recently made its way to the iPad, with an app that takes full advantage of the new features introduced in iOS 4.2. From our review:

…the great value of djay lies in its own software nature: it’s not a complicated piece of hardware you have to set up and manually wire, it’s a great app that can be used in professional environments and by casual users like me at the same time. I’m sure “pro” users will delve deeper into the app to test all the impressive tech that’s behind it, but for someone like me — who’s not really a DJ nor does know all the terminology necessary to understand all the features of djay — this is just so cool, and useful.

We have two copies of djay to give away: one for the iPad, one for the Mac. Check out the giveaway rules below. Good luck! Read more

JotAgent for Dropbox: 5 Promo Codes Up for Grabs

JotAgent is a neat little utility for iPhone and iPad that lets you quickly save notes in Dropbox with literally two taps. I reviewed it here a few weeks ago:

The concept is simple: you link the app to your Dropbox account, you fire it up and start writing. With the tap of a button, the note gets quickly saved in Dropbox. That’s it. You can then browse all the notes you saved, or simply write a new one.

JotAgent is not a tool for professional writers: it’s a lightweight app to “jot” down an idea and have it stored on Dropbox, which runs on your iOS devices, the web and Mac. It’s a great way to save random ideas, thoughts and pieces of text in a service that works anywhere, on any device.

The app is available at $0.99 in the App Store, but in case you haven’t bought it yet we have 5 promo codes up for grabs. Jump after the break, check out the giveaway rules and good luck!

Delibar for iPhone Syncs Bookmarks In The Cloud - Review & Giveaway

I don’t really save bookmarks anymore like I used to, but I know hundreds of thousands of users out there save any kind of content every day on popular services like Delicious, Pinboard and historio.us. I’m out of the bookmarking game, maybe because my browser’s address bar became so smart I can type a few characters and get back to that post I needed. Or maybe because I save the stuff I want as starred items in Google Reader and faves in Twitter or then again, maybe I was just tired of bookmarking. Like I said, though, bookmarking services are far from dead, even if people like me stopped using them.

For this very reason you should welcome the release of Delibar for iPhone, which is, hands down, the best iOS app to access Delicious and Pinboard bookmarks. Read more

MacStories Giveaway: Win A Copy Of The Incident

The Incident is an insanely awesome game from Big Bucket Software which we’ve covered a few times in the past. Addictive gameplay, pixels all over the place, a great 8-bit soundtrack composed by Cabel Sasser. With the latest 1.2 update, the developers introduced an “endless mode”, bug fixes and the possibility to control the game on your iPad directly from your iPhone.

The Incident is a great game. Here’s your chance to win a copy. Read more
