Engadget Awards iPad ‘Gadget of the Year’

Does it really surprise anyone that Apple’s iPad keeps winning awards? No, not really but it means Apple really knows how to make great products. Today, Engadget announced the winners of their 2010 Editors’ Choice Awards. Just a few days ago, Engadget posted their Reader’s Awards and the iPad also won ‘Gadget of the Year’ there too. Readers’ opinions are just as important as editors’ ones but it’s the editors’ decisions that more people see. Engadget is one of the most popular tech sites out there, besides us, so it’s cool to see the iPad standout from the crowd there as well.

Apple’s iPhone also won an Editors’ Award for Phone of the Year. “We went endlessly back and forth on this one, but in the end the iPhone 4 won out – it’s simply a more polished device than the Evo, and it set a dramatic new quality standard for mobile displays.”

For what it’s worth, Microsoft’s Kin was awarded the highest placement for ‘Worst Gadget of the Year.’ “Though it might not be the single worst product we saw in 2010, the sheer magnitude of the Kin’s failure – measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars – takes it to the top of our list.”

Engadget orinally reviewed the iPad last April and scored it an 8 out of 10. But, it’s not just the technology and hardware that made it their top gadget, it’s the influence that is has had (and continues to) on the industry. We can’t wait to see what happens in 2011 with the unveiling of the next generation iPad (NEXT WEEK!). Will it also be considered for Gadget of the Year for 2011 or will Apple have to reveal a new type of gadget to retain their crown? Time will only tell.
