ActionMenu Extends Your iPhone Copy & Paste Menu

Before OS 3.0 we were unable to copy & paste stuff on our iPhones: sure, there were apps such as Clippy available in Cydia which allowed us to use some sort of copy and paste features, but it wasn’t polished, refined and stable like the solution Apple came out with. And it seems like after the release of iPhone OS 3.0 people stopped asking about new stuff, everyone seems to be satisfied now. Fortunately, there are many people who noticed that the “action menu” (the one you activate everytime you copy / paste / select some text) could be improved a lot.

Fortunately, there’s a guy like Ryan Petrich who developed an amazing tweak called Action Menu.

First, In this article I’m talking about the “pro” version of Action Menu, called Action Menu Plus Pack, available in the Cydia Store at $2.99. Action Menu extends the copy & paste menu adding a few extra tabs which will incredibly improve the way you use your iPhone.

First, there’s clipboard history: just like on Mac OS you can retrieve the items your previously copied and paste them again. I think there’s no doubt about the awesomeness of this feature. The implementation in Action Menu is simple yet effective: tap and hold your finger, click on the history icon and here you go, all the stuff you’ve copied is ready to be pasted again.

Then, ActionMenu adds a scroll to top / to bottom button which many users will find useful when browsing long webpages or mail messages. Very straightforward and stable. Again, another button: Twitter integration. Action Menu lets you tweet the text you’ve selected by automatically opening your favorite Twitter client. By now Action Menu supports the most famous apps like Tweetie and Twitterrific.

Thanks to this little tweak you can also add some Favorites (snippets of text), call a number with the Dial button or even Copy All the elements on a page.

Last, there’s Lookup. With this feature you can select some text and look it up at many online services like Google Search, Wikipedia, Dictionary and Google Translate. Amazing.

ActionMenu is highly recommended if you have a jailbroken iPhone. If not, I think it’s time .

Totally awesome.
