Do We Need an iTunes Server Version?

iTunes Server would allow each user to set up an account and build a personal library. These accounts would ensure that the server program knows exactly which files each user wants to access. Users’ library files would remain on their individual computers, and they would be able to create their own playlists, add ratings, and keep track of their play counts and last played dates.

When the server is first set up, users would be able to choose which files they see in their copies of iTunes; this would also affect what they can sync to their iOS devices.

Sounds interesting, but my money is on iTunes in the cloud making the whole process easier, faster and, overall, better.

Reactable Brings Interactive Multitouch Music Making to iOS

The Reactable is a virtual modular synthesizer that allows you to create music by interacting with a touch-based tangible tabletop. You basically touch this surface and place block on it to create music. The instrument has been used by many musicians at many conferences and festival, and especially by Icelandic musician Björk, who used one during the 2007 Volta tour. iTunes 10.0.1 Goes Live with Ping Sidebar

Apple released a minor update to iTunes last night, which reaches version 10.0.1 and introduces a new feature for Ping users: the Ping sidebar. The Ping sidebar allows you to always have the updates from the people you follow under control: the “Recent Activity” is a smaller version of the Ping dashboard you’re used to and it displays new purchases, preorders and likes. Apple Posts “iPod + iTunes Timeline” Page

Not so many people noticed this on September 1st (Alex Brooks did), but Apple posted a cool webpage called “iPod + iTunes Timeline” right after the music event. You can check out the page here. As the name suggests, it’s a timeline of iTunes and iPod history starting from January 2001 all the way down to September 2010 and it comes with useful info about product release dates and announcements.

You can also download “image packs” (upon confirming an agreement) which contain .tif files of Apple products. At the bottom of the page, some pictures of celebrities enjoying their iPods.

Ping: The Woz Approves

I don’t like Ping, but who am I to go against what the Woz says? After Wednesday’s Apple Music Event (where Steve Jobs surprisingly mentioned Wozniak by calling him his “partner in crime”) some journalists met the Woz and asked him a few questions about the stuff Jobs announced on stage. Namely, Apple TV and Apple’s first attempt at social networking - Ping.
