Hackers Find New Exploit for iPhone 3GS with new Bootrom: Gull1hack
We knew this was gonna happen, maybe not this soon. Seems like a group of hackers have found an exploit to achieve the untethered jailbreak on the iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom that should have been very hard to hack.
“This Exploit works on ALL iPhone and iPod Touches.
While booting, we overun the buffer memory, letting the iPhone think there is something wrong; But in the moment it tries to enter safe mode, we send a boot signal like Blackra1n or Redsn0w.”
Now you guys just have to wait. Still no words from the Dev Team though, we’ll see.
Quickly Switch to the Previous Application with Last App
Last App is a new and cool application available in Cydia (yes, I’m back into the jailbreaking world) which allows you to switch back and forth between the app that’s running on your iPhone and the one that was previously running.
Just assign an activation method in the Activator settings (mine is “double tap on status bar”) and Last app will immediately switch to the “last application” that was running before you opened another one. You can also choose to background the running app before switching.
I find myself using it a lot. It’s fast, useful and free.
Giveaway: Win a Copy of Doux, Beautiful Winterboard Theme
This is quite new for MacStories. I know that many of you guys have an iPhone, and I know that many of you have a jailbroken iPhone. There are many reasons to consider jailbreaking an iPhone, like multitasking, Cydia Store apps and graphical customizations.
For this reason, I thought it would have been nice to start giving away stuff for jailbroken devices. Today we start with a “premium” Winterboard theme you can find in Cydia at $0.99 and it’s called Doux.
Entering is simple. First, be sure that you have a jailbroken device and you know how to manually put a theme via SSH (using Cyberduck, perhaps)
Then:
Leave a comment here, telling us the theme you’re currently using. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 10th.
Good luck!
PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X and iPhone OS 3.1.3 Released
“If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom. “
Jailbreakers, you know what to do.
iPhone OS 3.1.3 Is Available
Yeah, it’s out. It’s a bug fixes release, and includes:
- fix for some 3rd party apps not launching in some instances;
- improves accuracy of reported battery level of iPhone 3GS.
Available, as usual, through iTunes. Jailbreakers, don’t update.
Jailbreak
So you think jailbreaking your iPhone is a bad thing. Shawn Blanc tells you why you should.
Create Custom Springboard Layouts with Iconoclasm
If there’s something great about jailbreak, that’s the possibility to completely theme and modify the original iPhone user interface. Thanks to that amazing tool called Winterboard, you can download and install custom themes on your phone, which will change everything from icons and statusbar color to the dialpad and settings page. Be sure to check out my roundup about 12 best Winterboard themes if you missed it. Anyway, today I’d like to talk about a nice tweak I’ve just purchased from the Cydia Store: it’s called Iconoclasm, and it lets you arrange your icons on the Springboard in a whole different way.
Interview with Gi-Lo, Developer of iPhone Tweaks from Cydia.
As a part of the MacStories Apps Tree event, I had the chance to interview Gi-Lo, a developer of iPhone tweaks available in Cydia. He’s the creator of SnowCover, FiveIRows and many other stuff. Be sure to follow @EyeDevs on Twitter to stay update about what Gi-Lo and his upcoming team have in store for 2010.
This is 15th of many interviews and guest posts I’ll publish on MacStories during this week.
Enjoy!
