The Powerful Code Editor for iPad and iPhone — Now Free to Try
With the release of iOS 4.2 beta today to iPhone and iPad developers, Apple issued a press release confirming that AirPrint, the technology that will allow wireless printing on iOS, will be out in November - and HP’s ePrint-enabled printers will be the first to support it.
This is pretty confusing: will HP’s printers the only ones to support AirPrint, or will they just be the first ones to officially support it? Check out the press release after the break. Read more

As soon as iOS 4.1 comes out this week (as announced by Steve Jobs at last week’s Apple music event) iPhone 3G users should feel safe to upgrade. In case you don’t know, iOS 4 for iPhone 3G wasn’t exactly “perfect”: to cut short, it was slow. I tried an iPhone 3G running the magical iOS 4: it was barely usable. Even a stupid task like unlocking the phone took a few seconds more than usual, not to mention springboard navigation and Safari. At least, that’s what asymco claims. We knew that there were 59.6 million iPhones and 3.2 million iPads through June; at the music event last Wednesday, Apple announced that 120 million iOS devices were sold to date. So asymco assumed that Apple sold 8 million iPhones and 4 million iPads during July and August, and they came up with a 45.2 million iPod Touches sold to date estimate. That’s 37.7% of total units. We reported many times in the past that businesses are jumping on the iPad. If you remember, Mercedes even decided to start using the iPad as a sales tool. Not to mention Forrester saying that iOS devices are ready for enterprise and Apple deploying even more Enterprise features in iOS 4.0 such as wireless app distribution (which I tested a few days ago, really works great) and better Entourage support.
People just can’t stop stuffing the iPhone 4 inside SLR cameras, can they? I don’t know if these hacks actually work or are mere geek material for posts, still I can’t help but think that they’re incredibly cool.
And the latest one we’re covering here could be the best we’ve ever found: someone really did create an iPhone 4 case out of a SLR Canon. They took out its internal parts, they re-assembled everything and stuffed the iPhone 4 inside. Could an iOS-like interface be the future of SLR cameras? I don’t know, but man - it’s great.

The rumors were right: the iPad is getting iOS 4 in November. iOS 4.2, precisely, which will unify the operating system across all Apple’s mobile devices. From what we saw earlier today, iOS 4.2 seems to be the solution to our iPad-related problems: it’ll bring wireless printing (huge for business users), multitasking, folders, widget controls. It’s also got a new feature which I’m extremely excited about: AirPlay. Together with iTunes and the new Apple TV, AirPlay will allow you to easily stream content back and forth between your mobile device, computer and Apple TV. One click media sharing. It looks great.
But there’s one thing Apple didn’t with iOS 4 for iPad: they didn’t change it. They didn’t took the same iPhone codebase and revamped the experience to take advantage of the iPad’s unique features. They made it bigger. And it turns out, I was wrong.
In case you missed it, there was an Apple keynote earlier today. A Stevenote. Yeah, no big deal. Really: they just announced a completely refreshed iPod line with new Touches, Nanos and Shuffles, a new Apple TV, HDR photography in iOS 4.1 and they previewed 4.2 for iPad. With multitasking. Oh, they also talked about Game Center and iOS 4.2 unified across all devices. But really, no big deal.
Amongst all these insignificant updates, Apple also revealed a new version for their popular music player, ehm, video player, ehm, app installer, ehm, Store - ok, they announced a new version of iTunes. iTunes 10. Not X, 10. The tenth iteration of a software which, over the years, has gone from playing music to managing your iBooks. An application that now gets a new icon (I like it, was about time to ditch the CD), new close / minimize buttons (more on this in a minute), a refined UI and…a social network. Inside the app. Another feature in iTunes.
Apple: are you sure about that?
Finally, the wait is over. Apple will provide a live stream of tomorrow’s music event: of course, we’ll be here ready to discuss everything with you.
This is something we’ve been looking forward to for a very long time, and my guess is that Steve Jobs wants bloggers to blog less at his keynotes using MiFis. Maybe. Maybe they just thought is was about time.
