myPhoneDesktop is an app for iPhone, iPad and OS X we’ve covered on MacStories a few times in the past. While packed with functionalities, the basic concept of mPD is fairly simple: it provides a way to link your desktop web browser, computer and mobile devices over the air, through the cloud. myPhoneDesktop allows you to easily move data between computers and devices and relies on iOS’ push notification system to let you instantly get the data shared on a Mac or PC.
With this app, you can share text, URLs and images, initiate phone calls and send SMS, send links to alternative browsers for iOS, send content from any webpage to your iPhone and iPad via bookmarklet. It comes with a browser plugin and a desktop app to simplify sharing of data, it’s deeply integrated with several third party iOS apps such as Instapaper, Skype and GoodReader. The latest 1.6 update, though, takes everything a step further: the app can run in the background and receive clipboard data for 10 minutes, it’s got Google Voice integration and the desktop companion can even initiate Google Voice calls and send SMS.

Squarespace is a phenomenal blogging platform that allows customers to easily build their own websites, check statistics, moderate comments, and enjoy the freedoms of mobile blogging on both the iPhone and (now) the iPad. While many of us have struggled or implemented some wonky workflow to blog on the iPad, you may just want to ditch your Movable Type or WordPress blog for Squarespace simply because their iPad app is quite frankly amazing.
I’ve emailed blog posts before, but there’s nothing worse than the distraction of your inbox when writing blog posts. There’s also those Simplenote or Writer articles written in Markdown that eventually get converted to HTML on the Mac before being uploaded. I’ve also tried TextExpander for Markdown, but real time conversions are slow (especially if you have to edit on the iPad). Then we even have native blogging applications like WordPress that are honestly awful, though I supposed WordPress’ bare minimum iPad app is better than nothing. Squarespace did their blogging app right, because not only is it both beautiful and functional (all of your tools are available in a familiar interface), but you can blog in Markdown and Textile natively -> that’s the killer feature folks. You also get easy access to your web tools for moderating comments and checking page views, and I don’t feel like I’m hindered by what my tablet has to offer. Squarespace, you guys seriously rock.

When Apple announced AirPlay, it also confirmed that several AirPlay-enabled third party speakers would come out for consumers to use in conjunction with iPhones and iPads without the need of setting up a wireless system based on AirPort Express. Since then, though, those speakers haven’t found their way to the market. Yet. Read more
Apple just sent out a press release announcing that the company expect Apple TV sales to top one million units later this week. It also announced that iTunes users are now “renting and purchasing over 400,000 TV episodes and over 150,000 movies per day”.
The best part? The Apple TV is not a hobby anymore, but is described by Apple PR as “the perfect iOS accessory”, thanks to AirPlay. That’s quite an evolution.
