MacStories Product Review: XtremeMac InCharge Auto For iPad

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice the lack of a power outlet when you’re traveling, and I’m betting your iPhone’s GPS is quickly draining that once long-lasting battery. Whether it be for in-car navigation, the passenger playing a game, or those movie watching kids in the back seat, you’ll need a good plan in place to keep those iDevices juiced throughout your trip. A good ol’ fashioned car charger should do the trick.

XtremeMac’s InCharge Auto for iPad (which really means it supports all iOS devices) might just be the little helper you’re looking for. A 2.1 amp vehicle charger that plugs into a 12 volt plug or your cigarette lighter, the smallness and portability of XtremeMac’s solution makes it incredibly portable for travel, and doesn’t junk up your dashboard with bright lights or chunky plastic.

The cable is roughly 3 FT in length, leaving you ample room to sit your iPhone in a cup holder, a car dock mounted on the windshield, or perhaps even into your glovebox or armrest. A small orange LED does light when the InCharge is in use, but it’s not distracting at night (and may match your radio’s indicator lights on some vehicles). Two release buttons on the InCharge auto push out two metal connectors for an easy disconnect, and the dock connector is virtually the same as Apple’s quick connect cables: just push the connector into your iPhone or iPad, and pull it out when you’re done without release buttons. The product does fulfill its ultimate function: to charge your device (and in style).

Is a car charger a needed accessory? I don’t know about you, but I’d want to have the backup accessory in my messenger bag just in case I forgot to plug in my iPhone overnight. What better way than to do it with an accessory that not only looks good on your dashboard, but doesn’t take up a lot of space like others on the market? XtremeMac makes a very fashionable car charger for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad for only $24.99.
