MacStories 3.0 RSS Feeds & Mobile Optimization

New RSS feeds? Mobile optimization? Get the skinny on what we’re improving behind the scenes.

As awesome as launches can be, that’s not to say we’re perfect. After all, you kiddos might find a glitch or two in your favorite web browser that we haven’t picked up on. That’s totally cool, and we’re really eager to fix all of your issues and address your complaints. You can contact us via email, or leave a comment below about things you’d like to see fixed. Just try to keep it civil please — we’re working our butts off!

Starting today, we’re rolling out some changes to our default RSS feeds that affect everyone currently subscribed to the site. We’re implementing excerpt-only feeds. For the time being, you’ll only be getting a paragraph or two of each post. If we have a lot to say, readers will have to click thru to access our content. In most RSS readers (such as Reeder for the iPad), this shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

Granted, we’re not terribly excited over this either, and our RSS feeds haven’t been getting the attention they’ve needed for a long time now. Previous subscribers have dealt with giant images and other inconsistencies, and we’ve had to make some temporary changes with the new launch to fix some of the issues you’re having. We’ll be relaunching the full feeds again soon, but we don’t know how soon.

Mobile optimization is a big request and topic of discussion right now, and we couldn’t throughly test our current implementations before the deadline. MacStories 3.0 looks great on the iPad, but we currently haven’t implemented a proper iOS scheme for iPhones and iPod touches. We’ll be rolling out a proper mobile version of our site pretty soon, so stay tuned.

Hopefully we’ve addressed some of your more pressing concerns this morning, and we hope to be operating at full capacity within the next few weeks. Thanks guys!
