The Glif: We Need This iPhone Stand & Tripod Mount

I’m not exactly an accessory guy: I’m not into cases and skins, I like my iPhone naked. I purchased a Just Mobile Xtand, though: it’s a great way to keep the iPhone at a good visible angle on my desk and, frankly, it looks great next to the iMac.

But the Glif could be a lot better: a stand/tripod mount hybrid that doesn’t suck, doesn’t look bad and, most of all, could finally help you get things done. It could be a great way to use your iPhone as a digital clock, a great camera tripod…just watch the video below. Why am I saying “could”? Because the guys behind the Glif need our help. They have created a prototype, but the manufacturing process will cost around $10.000 to be completed.

Here’s the official Kickstarter campaign for Glif. Go donate right now, we need this. [via DF] Read more

Apple Approves BitTorrent App?

With all the new/revised rules for App Store approvals, who knows what will show up in the Store? First it was Google Voice apps and now a BitTorrent app? Could this one have slipped through the Apple cracks? Remember Handy Light and MiTube?

IS Drive by Derek Kepner is an app that works with ImageShack‘s BitTorrent service, which allows users to manage their downloads. While BitTorrent is not illegal as a file sharing protocol; it is the preferred method to copy the unauthorized exchange of music and video - and that’s a reason for Apple to reject applications that allow users to manage their downloads. 1TapAlarm: Easy Reminder Notifications for iPhone

Two weeks ago I installed a new app on my iPhone called “Due” which allows me to easily set up reminders for any action I don’t want to dump into my GTD system (powered by OmniFocus), yet I need to be reminded of. Due for iPhone is very simple, and it lets you enter a title for the “task”, a due time and play around with some straightforward settings.

1TapAlarm by ShinyFrog is an even simpler app you can use to setup quick timers on your iPhone. Plus, it’s free in the App Store. Read more

VLC Is Coming To The iPhone

Two weeks developer Applidium released VLC for iPad, a native iOS version of the popular open-source media player VLC. The iPad app is free, and it gained a lot of visibility and press coverage following its release in the App Store. It stayed at the top of Free Apps charts for many days, despite some compatibility problems with certain file types and crashes on iPads running more advanced versions of iOS - namely iOS 4.2 beta. iSkinza Might Just Be The Sexiest Vinyl Skins for iOS Devices

Our good friend Arron Hirst, who regularly blogs over at RazorianFly, has been working on something very cool recently. If you follow the guy (you should), then you know that he released an interesting set of iPhone wallpapers in the past, known by the absurdly awesome names of Zumoki, Uberkis, Folzi and Klarion. Now, those wallpapers have been turned into adhesive skins for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad which you can check out over at Hirst’s new project, iSkinza. Read more

Not Your Ordinary $100 iPhone Stand

What’s $100 to a loyal Apple supporter like yourself? Instead of keeping that Benjamin tucked away in your wallet, why not use it as an iPhone or iPod Touch stand?

In this dated YouTube video from December 2007, photographer Enrique Pardo uses his origami skills to fold a $100 bill into a stand for an iPhone or iPod touch. Those of you on a budget, go for a Lincoln or even a Washington, but make sure it’s nice and crisp. [via TUAW] Read more
