There’s one app on my Mac I could never, ever live without: 1Password. I basically store my life in it: my digital life in the shape of logins and accounts, and my real life as credit cards, bank accounts and secure notes - it’s all there. Can a single application handle the most important aspects of your work, your life? Sure it can, and 1Password is designed to do this exact thing, handle things for you and make you feel safe about it.

We all know that the Mac and iPhone versions of 1Password are great apps, but what about the iPad one? Agileweb Solutions was one of the first development houses to announce plans for the new device and publicly release early mockups of their new app, so maybe someone feared the first iteration of 1Password for iPad would be buggy, slow and not so well developed after all. Couldn’t have been more wrong. 1Password for iPad looks and works great, just as you saw in the screenshots weeks ago -  but most of all feels good on the iPad.

There’s this iPad application which is going pretty good in the App Store, GoodReader. I heard a lot of people talking about it and, after a while, I was curious. So I decided to buy it and see if it can effectively hold up to the expectations I have.

Developer Will Strafach has managed to jailbreak an iPad, but we talked about this before. What’s new is that he succesfully installed Voice Control on the device, and as you can see from the video embedded after the break, it works.

A few people also haven’t noticed that his iPad is running Backgrounder, the Cydia tweak that allows to leave applications running in the background and thus multitask by switching from an app to another one. I bet Pro Switcher is working as well.

The iPad jailbreak may be only a few weeks away. Sure it will be a great solution while waiting for iPhone OS 4.0.

I’m still surprised I managed to put my hands on an iPad, and people are already talking about the next generation. Guess we all saw that coming, and it’s not a problem anyway: if Apple releases a new model of each product every day, then you can expect the rumors spreading at any time.

Digitimes reports:

“Apple reportedly has started development of the second generation iPad using the same design concept as for the iPhone 4G, and will use an OLED panel, according to sources in the component industry. Apple is said to be aiming to launch the device in 2011, but a Digitimes Research senior analyst said the cost of OLED panels are much too high for the iPad.

Major panel makers are investing more in OLED production, with Samsung Electronics currently boasting the most OLED capacity. LG Display (LGD) acquired Eastman Kodak’s OLED division last year, while AU Optronics (AUO) plans to restart its OLED production in 2011.

The sources with the components sector said OLED panel prices are expected to drop and make it more price friendly for the iPad.”

And there you have it. OLED screen,even faster processor, front facing camera and additional storage: that’s what you’ll be hearing in the next months.

Before the iPad came, I was forced to watch movies with my Macbook. Imagine the pain of having this thing on your legs while you’re in bed and you just want to watch something before going to sleep. Now that I have this new device, I can say that using a Macbook was unnecessary, uncomfortable and so last year. Because, really, watching movies on the iPad with Air Video has been sort of a life changing experience to me.

To those who said the iPad was “just a bigger iPhone”, I can now say you were right guys. After watching this video you’ll see how indeed the iPad is a bigger iPhone which lets you even make bigger calls. Yep. Or maybe not.

Thing is, I stumbled upon this video on Youtube of this guy who’s managed to create a pretty straightforward method to use Google Voice on the iPad, call and receive calls even when the screen is locked. You just have to forward your GV number to Gizmo, run the iSip iPhone app on the iPad and insert your Gizmo settings. Also, you can use a bluetooth headset for it.

I think it’s cool, and I’d love to test Google Voice someday myself. Sadly, it’s not available in Italy. Check out the video after the break.

Some applications make more sense on the iPad, some don’t. When I first reviewed Articles from Sophiestication in its iPhone version, I said it was the best Wikipedia app for iPhone out there. I still think it is, as no other application has managed to get even near to the sheer amount of quality Sophia has put into that tiny Wikipedia client. But one could argue whether the iPhone is any good for reading, and that’s a complete different story. Once you try an iPad, you realize how much it is better for reading and consuming content than the iPhone, which is meant for accessing that content on the go.

As you try an iPad you realize how much a previously iPhone-only application makes more sense on it, and Articles is no exception.
