iPhone As A Wallet with Visa payWave

I’ve been dreaming about an “iPhone as wallet” for years now. Apple patents are not enough, I want the real thing: I want to ditch these cards and papers I still have in my pocket. For God’s sake, it’s 2010 we’re talking about. New Yorkers are closer than us to the real thing: thanks to the newly introduced payWave system by Visa, they can now pay train, subway and bus fares using their iPhone.

You fire up the Visa app, “slide to pay” to initiate the payment process, wave the phone over a compatible reader and you’re done. You’ve paid for something in the real word with a digital paper-free device. Antennagate Is Alive, And It’s Helping Apple Sell More iPhones

Today I went to an Apple Store with my friends and girlfriend. I live in Viterbo, so we had to drive to Rome’s “Roma EST” Apple Store, which is a 90 minutes drive. I wanted to buy an Airport Express to use with AirPlay (and eventually came home with a KeepItClean MacBook cleaner spray, too), a friend wanted to get a 17-inch MacBook Pro. We had a great time, just like every time we go to that Apple Store. Customer experience quality is top-notch.

This is not the point, though. The last time I went to that Apple Store was in May, and the iPhone 4 wasn’t out yet. Today was the first visit after the iPhone 4 release and all the “Antennagate” media mess. Today’s visit made me realize Antennagate is still alive and kicking, but it’s actually helping Apple sell more iPhone 4s. Read more

Apple Profiles Researchers Using iPads in Pompeii

Pompeii is one of the most beautiful and historically rich archeological sites in the world. Scientists and researchers from all around the glober gather in Pompeii every week to study and analyze what that lost population left us. And to collect their notes and sketches they’re using iPads now; Apple thus decided to create a new webpage for scientists working in Pompeii with an iPad. Read more

iWork Apps for iPad Updated with “Export to Office” And Lots Of New Features

The iWork apps for iPad (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) were just updated to include support for “export to Office” features: you can now export documents to .xls, .ppt and .doc formats directly from your iPad. Other notable features in version 1.2include the ability to group and ungroup objects and CSV files in Numbers, the ability to copy documents between the app and iDisk or WebDAV server, word count in Pages. “Copy documents to iDisk” doesn’t exactly sound like “full MobileMe integration”, though.

Apple Now Allowing Ringtone Makers In The App Store

Since the early days of the App Store, applications that allow users to make ringtones from songs on their handsets have either inexplicably sat on hold or were outright denied. And yet, here we are; as of right now, there are no less than 5 different ringtone making apps sitting in the App Store.

Ringtone Designer Pro is great. Simple, and nice UI.
