You Can Now Watch PBS Shows on Your iPhone

Back in October, we reported that PBS redesigned their website with an online player, and a new iPad app. They also said an iPhone and iPod Touch app were coming in Novem… well, January to be exact. PBS has finally announced the iPhone and iPod touch version of their iPad app. It looks great and it’s (you guessed it) free. Just like the iPad counterpart, you can watch full-length PBS productions wherever you are. It features over 300 videos: full length episodes, segments and previews with new content updated every day.

  • PBS primetime programs: Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, History Detectives, Masterpiece, Nature, Need to Know, Nova, Secrets of the Dead, and more.
  • PBS NewsHour segments.
  • Austin City Limits song performances.
  • Special clips and full-length episodes from the PBS special CIRCUS.
  • Original online series, including Nova ScienceNOW’s “Secret Life of Scientists” and “FutureStates” from INDEPENDENT LENS.

Denso Dash Has an iPhone Steering Wheel

Everyone owns a smartphone so why not integrate it into your future car? Many automobile companies are already integrating them because it could be the next big thing. Skip the built-in GPS screen, plug in your iOS device and do more! Denso is showing a futuristic dashboard, with an iPhone embedded in the center of the steering wheel. Sounds distracting and dangerous but it controls the infotainment system and a small, circular LCD above with some widgets you can flick & bounce with a touch from the iPhone. It also communicates with traffic lights to inform you what speed to drive in order to meet them when they’re all green. Weird I know, but the idea is to save fuel (and money) by not stopping and starting all the time.

Amazon Releases Deals App for iPhone

“Never miss another deal.” Amazon has released an official iOS app for their deals called Amazon Deals. I think it’s about time, there are tons of crazy deals that we miss every day until someone tweets about it. No more! The app lets you check availability of current offers, future offers and one you may have just missed (so you can cry over it). You can also schedule reminders for future offers and also purchase from within the app after signing into your account in the Settings tab. You can also share Deals from within the app. Click the ‘share’ icon in the upper right of the detail screen and send via E-mail, Twitter, Facebook or even SMS. Read more

Trimensional - An iPhone App That Does 3D Scanning

Rank this one under the ‘how the eff did they do that’ apps, right up there with Word Lens. Trimensional, from Grant Schindler, is a 3D scanner for your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch (requires front-facing camera). It detects patterns of light reflected off your face to build a true 3D model. Here’s how - it models images in 3D simply by turning down the lights, turning up your iPhone screen’s brightness and holding close to an object, like your own face.

When you’re done with your 3D image, you can view a 3D slideshow, email or save tehm to your camera roll. Trimensional averages 4 out of 5 stars in the App Store and was released January 5, 2011.

How Do You Like These iPad 2 Mockups?

In the shadow of today’s big announcements regarding the Mac App Store, some leaks, I mean mockups, showed up. Not to detour you from downloading lots of new Mac Apps, but don’t forget the iPad 2 is still hot news.

So MIC Gadget actually thought they had leaked pictures of the next gen iPad (updated with “mockups”). If a small blog can get screenshots of the Mac App Store (and post them), why can’t MIC Gadget get iPad 2 pictures? Well, they’re obviously fake. Anyway, here’s some interesting mockups of the upcoming iPad 2 for your enjoyment and we even included Joy of Tech’s list of iPad 2 “dreamy” expectations (and maybe ours). More after the break.
