Right after Apple announced the new iPod Nanos in September with their new form factor, some people immediately started wondering whether someone had in mind to ship some kind of watch band for them. The new Nanos looked perfect for a watch. When the first silicone bands came out, though, it turned out the iPod didn’t look that great as a watch. A friend of mine bought a similar band, a leather one, and things got slightly better.

iPod Nano 6G Found To Have Secret Diagnostics Mode Dubbed “iTerm”
The guys over at iLounge have been doing a little digging into their new iPod nano and they have discovered that it contains a secret diagnostic mode called iTerm. If you fancy a peek, then you need to reset the iPod by pressing and holding the sleep and volume down buttons until the Apple logo appears. Once that happens, you have a choice. If you want to enable Disk mode, which will give you a retro iPod black and white screen, and, as the name suggests, makes the iPod visible to a computer as an external USB drive, you need to hold down both volume buttons during the reset. The iPod Stocking Stuffers: iPod nano vs. iPod touch
Not too many people have gone hands-on with the new iPods, but I think I can make a safe bet as to whether this year’s stocking stuffer is going to be the iPod nano or the iPod touch.
The iPod shuffle and the iPod nano: Click and Clip
Today we saw the return of the 2nd generation iPod shuffle as a smaller, 4th generation upgrade that features VoiceOver and a familiar scroll wheel in pale yet lovely shades of silver, blue, green, orange, and pink. Arriving in similar hues with savvy graphite and slick (PRODUCT)RED coats, the iPod nano has truly become the nano charm I’ve always wanted: a no-camera, no-video mini music player featuring an interactive multitouch interface and a clip-able form factor that’s perfect for my morning jog. I’m incredibly satisfied with this year’s offerings, and the click-and-go functionality of Apple’s latest iPods are great.
Was the iPod nano Camera Ever Useful?
When I think about the iPod nano, I think of it being that tall and slender iPod one shoves into an armband before jamming out to a Nike + tune on their thirty minute run. When I think about the iPod nano, I think of the FM radio and iTunes tagging capabilities. I think of the genius playlists and its subtle curves. Though the iPod nano does have a camera, it never struck me as something I’d want to have for that device.
More Case Photos Confirm New iPod Touch & Nano Design
Apple’s music event is tomorrow, the wait is almost over. In about 24 hours we’ll know everything about new iPod Touches, iPod Nanos (or Shuffles) iTV and whatever the rumor makers want Apple to announce. Still, it’s time for some last minute speculation.
An Overheating iPod Delays Tokyo Commuter Train
Sometimes timing is everything, and in this case it’s very bad for Apple. Last month, in fact, Apple was ordered by Japan’s trade ministry to improve safety warnings over some overheating first generation iPod Nano units that caused minor burn injures in four cases. Three days ago another overheating iPod delayed a rush-hour Tokyo train, Reuters reports.
Apple to Hold iPod Media Event Early?
Mac Magazine claims they’ve got the sources in Cupertino that points towards an August 16th or 17th media event to unveil Apple’s brand new line of iPods.
We have an idea of what the next generation iPod touch might look like, sporting a front facing camera and possibly a rear cam as well, though we’re not sure what the next iterations of the iPod nano or iPod shuffle might bring. It’s rumored that the shuffle might be getting a very tiny display, but then it wouldn’t be the absolute minimal shuffle we know and love (I might be the only one who actually liked the 3rd-gen shuffle).
I’d like to see a quick announcement of a new iLife at the event, and being a Verizon subscriber, you already know I’m on board for the next iPod touch. It only takes a couple of days for Apple to set up shop (likely at the Yerba Buena Center) for these events, so we’ll see if these rumors hold true or not.
Also, if Apple is provide a major update to the iPod shuffle, I would be excited to see something along the lines of Fitbit meets Nike+ in a portable package you’d wear all day. Wouldn’t that be cool?
