Another week, another new “App Store Essentials” section for iPhone users. This time around the folks over at the App Store team have collected “the most positively engaging and altogether difficult games available” - the list includes gems such as Chaos Rings, Archetype and Space Invaders Infinity Gene.

Adam Saltsman (aka Adam Atomic) is the man behind Canabalt, seriously one of the best “indie games” ever released in the last decade. What’s Canabalt? It’s a parkour-inspired game where you have to run and jump to avoid obstacles. Actually, the character automatically runs and you only have to press the jump button - or tap the screen in the iPhone and iPad versions.

Mac gamers, rejoice: one of the most acclaimed games for iPhone and iPad, Plants vs. Zombies, is now available on Mac OS X via Steam. It’s the game you know and love, available on your desktop computer of choice.
This “Game of the Year” edition also includes support for Steamcloud and a new feature called “Zombatar” which allows you to incorporate your own custom zombies into the game.

I don’t have many games on my iPhone and iPad, but I enjoy sitting down and play something every once in a while. I loved Canabalt, I bought Real Racing when Firemint introduced Retina Display support, I was a die-hard Orbital fan. Oh, and I download the eBoy game, too.
A few days ago I bought a new game in the App Store, Removr.
The guys over at Mutant Games surely know what’s wrong with the App Store. Games about farts, zombies, Chuck Norris. Hitler references, unicorn jokes, more zombie games. This is exactly what’s wrong with the App Store.
And it’s coming all together in a single iPhone game.
You never really think about all that goes into the development of game trailers for iOS. I can understand big game developers like EA having access to superb materials, and I never considered that solo or small-team developers would spend too much on camera and video equipment.
