Interview with Christophe Schmitt, Editor of Welovemac.net

Today is the last day of MacStories Festival guys, but I’ve still got so much stuff to post!

Today, I chatted with Christophe Schmitt, editor of Welovemac.net.

Enjoy! :)

Hi there! Can you please introduce yourself to MacStories readers?

As graphic designer I use Apple products for nearly 20 years. After holding a news site about podcasting (Odiopod) in 2005, I created Applenews.fr in 2006. For several reasons, Applenews.fr became, in 2008, Welovemac.net.

Welovemac.net is primarily dedicated to what the big news sites don’t talk (or just a little) : Mac or iPhone applications in details. Welovemac.net also some notable news and goodies like that much to our readers.

Welovemac.net is managed by myself and the podcast site, WelovemacJT and Welovemac Screencasts by Matthieu Blanco. Some contributors help us to propose content to our readers.

Welovemac.net now generates nearly 1 500 000 page views per month and our podcasts rank very high on the iTunes Store.

You are from France. How’s the situation about Mac / iPhone there? Are there any famous apps that come from France?

The iPhone is selling very well in France, especially since Orange (which was the exclusive retailer of smartphone) was forced by court order France is the only country where it happened) to let its competitors (Bouygues, SFR …) also sell the device, which has done much for sales statistics.

Applications for the iPhone sold in France are more specific to our country as “Paris Metro” but international applications that are leading the tops on the App Store are also with us.

I do not know what it is in Italy, it is the applications dedicated to french magazines, newspapers or radios. Each medium has its application on the App Store. This shows the success for the Apple phone.

Let’s talk about Snow Leopard. It’s out since a month now. Your thoughts?

I use Snow Leopard since its release and I’m very happy. As I said on Welovemac.net, Mac OS X 10.6 is not a revolution, it is an evolution involving very sophisticated refinements, particularly in graphics and reactivity.

The pricing of the product will certainly be the key to its success.

Can you please tell us some of your favourite Mac and iPhone apps?

For the Mac, I love CandyBar is an exceptional product. But I do not forget other software such as iWork, iBackup, Delicious Library, Snapz Pro X and LittleSnapper.

On my iPod Touch, I play many games like Lux DLX, Ramp Champ or Animal Kingdom that I just discovered. I use very few applications except for mail and web.

Welovemac was redesign recently. Are you planning other updates?

Welovemac.net was redesigned in June to stick more to my vision of the site.

But things go quickly! I want to offer more content and interactivity to our readers. And it is not with the current site that will happen.

Our readers will prepare a version 3 of Welovemac.net which will put a huge day and even a complete redefinition of what they know. Perhaps in 2009, maybe in 2010…

As Steve Jobs, I do not reveal too much information and there, I’ve said a lot;)

Thanks for chatting with us! Have a great Festival ;)

Thank you Federico! :)
