DropLook: Universal Previewer for People Who Can’t Stand QuickLook

There’s no doubt that QuickLook is one of the best things about Mac OS X: it provides easy and quick previews for any kind of file. However, QuickLook has a few major drawbacks: if you switch to another application the QuickLook window hides. Even with Exposè, you can’t retrieve the preview you opened. And, you can’t use more than one QuickLook.

Yesterday I stumbled upon this new app, DropLook ,which seems very interesting.

DropLook sits in your Dock, waiting for you to drop a file onto the icon. Once you’ve dropped something (folder, app, icon, .zip) the app will give you the same preview QuickLook usually gives you, in a different window.

See the screenshot below:

It’s a “normal” window with the same features of QuickLook. This means, you can leave it open and find it in Exposè. Obviously, as DropLook is based upon the QuickLook framework, any file can be previewed: see above, QuickLook easily previews both a .psd and an .icontainer.

Now, I really don’t know if this DropLook could suit your needs. If you find yourself daily previewing files with QuickLook but actually you can’t stand QuickLook, this app is aimed at you.

If not, you can always try it.

DropLook is a free download and open source too.
