The Pricing Smoke Around The Tablet Fire

TechCrunch

[..]The article as it appears now has been rewritten from when it first appeared earlier. I know this because I read both versions, and a simple Google search turns up a number of sentences and phrases that are no longer in the story, but are being quoted by multiple other sites and blogs. It’s not uncommon for blogs to write something quickly if there is a breaking story, and then flesh it out and perhaps even alter it a bit later, but again, this is the WSJ, and not their blog — this presumably is an article that will run in the paper tomorrow morning. Still, they had one version, and then changed it.

So, Apple is paying journalists to talk about the Tablet.

Sounds like a plan to save the publishing industry.

The App Store Approval Delay Is Now History

“According to 148Apps’ App Store metrics, not only the delay is slowly reducing, but it reached a new low this November. Having an app approved in November took only 4 days on average and that is with 376 apps per day being submitted.”

I guess Apple has read some blogs this year.

Apple Orders 10-Inch Tablet Displays Amid iSlate Talk

“A subsidiary of Foxconn, Innolux, will supply Apple with the majority of 10-inch glass displays and Wintek, which provides most iPhone display panels, will handle the remainder, according to Taiwan’s DigiTimes. The publication said Apple could announce its tablet in January with major shipments by March, 2010. One report has suggested Apple has told Foxconn it needs 300,000 tablets per month. If true, the report would dovetail with recent speculation Apple booked San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Jan. 26 for a product announcement.

Even before the tablet is unveiled the product hit a delay, prompting the wait until the first quarter of 2010. Apple has been searching for a way to strengthen the tablet’s glass panel, according to DigiTimes. Reportedly, another Foxconn subsidiary, G-Tech Optoelectronics, will provide the answer.

In another hint suppliers are ramping up for an Apple tablet, Cheng Uei Precision received orders for flat-panel “connectors.” However, the company suggests the components won’t ship until the third quarter of 2010, appearing to dispute a January announcement.”

Seems like this time is real. They should have told me that Christmas would come with a 30 days delay, anyway.

Read It Later Restyled Finally Available

After the release of Read It Later’s major update for iPhone (read my review if you missed it), the web interface went under a huge restyling too. Now the RiL platform shares the same interface between the web reading list, the iPhone app and the famous Firefox addon.

But what about the Mac? Is there an official Read It Later client for our desktops? The answer is no. But, there’s this Josh Nichols guy, who put together a userscript called “Read It Later Restyled” that brings the awesomeness of the newest update to a Fluid app near you. Just create a SSB with Fluid, download the userscript and place it into yourname/Library/Application Support/Fluid/Read It Later/Userscripts.

The result is gorgeous, and you can also download some custom icons from Josh Nichols’ website. Can’t wait to see what Instapaper Restyled creator will come up with.
