Instagram Makes Quick Beautiful Photos Social

A couple of my favorite apps on the iPhone currently are Hipstamatic and CameraBag. Like Instagram, both are photo apps that allow you to apply filters to pictures you take with the device. But both are fundamentally flawed in that neither has good sharing or discovery mechanisms. Put another way, neither are very social — at all. Instagram is. And it provides the same type of photo filter manipulation — and maybe even a little better.

Great preview by MG Siegler over at TechCrunch of an upcoming iPhone app to edit photos and share them. Since the mysterious removal of Camera+, I’m looking forward to this.

Luxylight Is The Most Beautiful Flashlight App Ever

There are many flashlight apps out there, yet finding a “beautiful” (or at least good-looking) one is a hard task. I mean, a flashlight app is just a flaslight app after all, right?

Well, Sylion doesn’t think so. Luxylight is the most beautiful and functional flashlight application that has ever landed on your iPhone 4. It’s got a leather-ish UI, and giant buttons to guide you through its features. Lickable design and interesting features. You can switch to strobe mode, and even send S.O.S. signals with perfectly timed lights. If you wish, you can lock the screen to prevent accidental key pressing. Luxylight is simply great.

I Bought An iPhone 4 in 1985 And I’ll Get 52 iPhones Tomorrow

This is interesting. Pretty similar to Kyle Conroy’s “What if I bought Apple stock instead?” table, Finlay Craig is now telling us that if we had spent £499.00 (the price of an iPhone 4 in the UK) worth of Apple, Inc. stock in 1985 we would have got 52 iPhone 4s today.

52 units. All piled on top of each other. Sounds like a plan. Does this work with iPod Nanos today? ‘Cause I wouldn’t mind getting 279 Nanos in 2024.

myPhoneDesktop Extension Puts The iPhone in Chrome

I talked about myPhoneDesktop 1.5 for iPhone and iPad a few hours ago, and here comes a dedicated Chrome extension to force me to cover the app once again. This extension is simple and powerful: all you have to do is sign in through the web interface and start sending links, pictures or text to your device.

The extension supports multiple copied items at once: if you try to send a link, text and image at the same time you’ll be asked if you want to keep the extension window active to select the items you want to forward to the iPhone. It’s really great, and it lets you speed up your workflow by not needing to use a standalone desktop application.

myPhoneDesktop 1.5: Still My Favorite Browser-to-iPhone App

When it comes to quickly sharing any kind of information between my desktop browser and the iPhone, I have one and only favorite tool of choice: myPhoneDesktop. What this app does is simple, yet effective: it allows you to share links, text, images, phone numbers and maps from your browser to the iPhone (or iPad, it’s universal) in seconds. Out of 200,000 Pre-orders, Taiwanese Carriers Got 1,800 iPhone 4s

This story reminds me of the Italian launch of the iPhone 4 back in July: lots of pre-orders, a few units shipped to carriers, people still waiting since July for an iPhone 4. True story: my girlfriend is still waiting for one from 3 Italia, and I had to buy a French one using eBay. Another friend of mine ordered an iPhone 4 in June and is still waiting for the Apple Store to call him back and tell him his unit has arrived. Read more

pod2g Confirms He’s Working on OS 4.1 Exploit Independently

Quick update for all those of you wondering what’s going on with iOS 4.1 jailbreak: with a series of tweets a few minutes ago, @pod2g has confirmed that he’s now working on the exploit that will make iOS 4.1 jailbreakable on his own. He’s not affiliated with the Chronic and iPhone Dev Team anymore, and the exploit will be his independent creation.

As @pod2g also wrote on Twitter, this is no big deal for final users as both the Chronic and iPhone Dev Team has been given all the details behind the exploit. Pod2g is not a jailbreak tool maker, he’s only focused on making the bootrom exploit work on 4.1.

Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 is set to be released soon, but no release date has been announced yet. Read more

Remember Newton OS? You Can Run It on the iPhone Now [Video]

Here’s a great video to kick off this Monday morning: available over at Google Code, the Einstein MessagePad emulator allows you to run Newton OS on other devices such as the iPhone (seen in the embedded video below), iPod Touch and, yes, iPad.
