The Glif for iPhone 4 Raises $137,417, Will Be Available Soon

The Glif is an innovative tripod mount and stand for the iPhone 4 by Thomas Gerhardt and Dan Provost we first covered a month ago when the NYC duo started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the projects. The Glif is based on a pretty expensive manufacturing process called “injection molding” which ensures great build quality and durability.

Unfortunately, the cost of the process was too high for the two designers, so they started a campaign and get covered on many Apple-related publications hoping users would find the idea interesting as much as we did.

Glif is a simple iPhone 4 accessory with two primary functions: mounting your iPhone to a standard tripod, and acting as a kickstand to prop your phone up at an angle.

The idea for the Glif was first formed when we realized the iPhone 4 is literally the best camera we’ve ever owned. With the addition of HD video recording and High Dynamic Range photography, it’s clear Apple is positioning the iPhone as a very high quality portable camera. But because of its small form factor (and Apple’s minimalist design approach) it will never contain a threaded nut for attaching a tripod – standard on almost all photo and video cameras.

The good news is, The Glif campaign managed to raise more than $130k in less than 30 days, while the developers set the initial goal to $10.000. Not a bad accomplishment at all. Thanks to all the users who pledged and supported The Glif, the project is now becoming a reality and will soon be available on The Glif’s official website. AnyRing & Ringtone Designer Pro, Two Easy Ways To Create iPhone Ringtones

I haven’t been a huge fan of custom iPhone ringtones until I found out that Apple revised its policy about apps that allow you to edit songs on-device (the revision apparently came with the public release of the Review Guidelines) and directly export them to iTunes. When I did, I downloaded Ringtone Designer Pro for iPhone and started rolling with it.

Last week, though, I also discovered a neat app in the Cydia Store called AnyRing (BigBoss repository, $3.99) that, in a very ugly interface, lets you set any song on your iPhone as your default ringtone. Read more

Facebook for iPhone 3.3 Update Now Live In The App Store

As we reported a few minutes ago, Facebook announced that an update for the Facebook iPhone app was on its way with improved Places support, new Groups interface, deals and better photo support in check-ins.

The update is now live in the App Store, although we’re getting some errors when trying to access the iTunes web preview. To download the app, just go check for updates or fire up the App Store on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Skyfire For iPhone Now Available, Reviewed [Update x2: It’s Back]

It was supposed to come out tomorrow, but SkyFire Web Browser is already available in the App Store at $2.99. Featuring SkyFire’s technology that allows you to view flash videos on the iPhone through a server-side conversion to HTML5, SkyFire for iPhone also features Facebook and Twitter sharing in-app, a Facebook “Quickview” menu to check on your Facebook wall with one tap, private browsing, tabs and a desktop user agent option.

T-Mobile Makes Fun of Apple’s FaceTime With “Get a Mac”-like Ad

With its latest ad to promote the MyTouch 4G, T-Mobile makes fun of Apple’s FaceTime restrictions (it only works on wifi, remember?) and blames AT&T for slowing down the entire iPhone 3G experience.

In the ad, very similar to the old “Get a Mac” ones, a young lady says “Hi. I’m a T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.”, then the camera reveals a man who says “And I’m an iPhone 4.” Another man is hanging on his back –he’s the old AT&T network. The ad goes on to say that Apple’s FaceTime works “everywhere there’s wifi, like in airports”, while you can make video calls anywhere with T-Mobile’s strong 4G network.

It’s a clever ad, and I like it. [via TUAW]

The 58-inch Multitouch Table For iPhone Is Real [Video]

We covered the Table Connect for iPhone (a 58-inch surface that mirrors your iPhone screen) a few days ago, and now the developers posted a video of the “device” in action: as you can see in the video above, the table requires you to start an app on the iPhone (likely available through jailbreak) and plug in the cable. Wifi is not supported at this point.

The two guys in the video seem to access the Springboard just fine, they swipe between pages and launch the Photos app. It doesn’t look like a fake, as many readers claimed. The iPhone also seems to be able to output UI elements on that bigger screen just fine.

The Table Connect is still in development, so we’ll keep you up to date with the project.

Update: some readers have pointed out that the guy in the video holds the power button down when firing up the app required to output the iPhone screen.

Skyfire, Already Approved by Apple, Will Bring Flash Videos To The iPhone On Thursday

As noted by 9to5mac, Skyfire will release its first iPhone app on Thursday, which will allow users to load Flash videos on the device using the startup’s on-the-fly conversion technology.

Skyfire takes a Flash video, sends it to its own servers and translates it to HTML5 on the iPhone in a few seconds. I’m not really sure whether Skyfire’s servers will hold up on Thursday, or if there’s anything more to be noted about this app besides Flash conversion. Read more

Doodle Jump Now Even More Addictive With Game Center Support

Doodle Jump is the iPhone game that started the “Doodle something” trend in the App Store. A simple game where you control a tiny…”thing” that has to jump using the iPhone tilt controls. Simple and addictive.

Doodle Jump’s latest 1.25 update brings support for Game Center: you can now compare your score with your friends to see who’s the best Doodler out there. Please don’t get mad at us when you’ll find out that you wasted 6 hours just trying to beat your friend’s record on Game Center. This update also brings the beloved ghost theme back.

You’ve been warned. Doodle Jump is available at $0.99 in the App Store.
