“Look how far we’ve come”, the folks over at AppAdvice say. And they’re right: this video perfectly shows how many things have indeed changed in these three years of iPhone, from the original one (the “2G”) to the latest iPhone 4.

Check out the video below. Try not to be nostalgic.

After running the first app, won’t the iPhone 4 be running things in the background via the multi-tasking technology? Therefore, aren’t all the subsequent test speeds hindered by the other apps running in the background?

@Andy Rudkin, There are no apps running in the background. Apps that do not have a task to complete or other multitasking features (like background music) are suspended in the background when the user presses the home button. While they still take a chunk of RAM (for fast app switching), they do not noticeably affect other apps, and the iPhone will instantly free RAM when needed. Since it sports 512MB of RAM, I highly doubt it did that during this test (neither did the 3GS for that matter).

@Rodi, Wow… that’s about as comprehensive an answer as I could have hoped for! Thanks.

Good video. I think my Next phone is going to be the 3Gs because the speed diference is so small, doesn’t it?

Thanks for the video guys! I’m currently using a 3G and my contract is up for renewal soon and I was going to get the iPhone 4 but after seeing this I don’t think I can justify the extra cost (justify it to myself of course!)
