Even if Apple told us the whole “Steve with Ninja stars” story was fake, Scoopertino has the real, ehm, scoop. It turns out, Steve Jobs wasn’t carrying shuriken around - no. Those were new and unreleased iPods.

Not so many people noticed this on September 1st (Alex Brooks did), but Apple posted a cool webpage called “iPod + iTunes Timeline” right after the music event. You can check out the page here. As the name suggests, it’s a timeline of iTunes and iPod history starting from January 2001 all the way down to September 2010 and it comes with useful info about product release dates and announcements.
You can also download “image packs” (upon confirming an agreement) which contain .tif files of Apple products. At the bottom of the page, some pictures of celebrities enjoying their iPods.

At least, that’s what asymco claims. We knew that there were 59.6 million iPhones and 3.2 million iPads through June; at the music event last Wednesday, Apple announced that 120 million iOS devices were sold to date. So asymco assumed that Apple sold 8 million iPhones and 4 million iPads during July and August, and they came up with a 45.2 million iPod Touches sold to date estimate. That’s 37.7% of total units. Apple’s music event is tomorrow, the wait is almost over. In about 24 hours we’ll know everything about new iPod Touches, iPod Nanos (or Shuffles) iTV and whatever the rumor makers want Apple to announce. Still, it’s time for some last minute speculation.
Apple is getting ready to announce new iPods on Wednesday, but rumor has it we’ll also new a brand new iTV, iTunes in the cloud, iOS 4 for iPad, new iLife. So many rumors for a music event. Stay tuned for the live coverage event we’re setting up here on MacStories, as usual.
SmartPhoneMedic is the same iPhone repair website that back in May posted a video showing the case of the rumored “iPhone 4G”. It’s a reliable source that somehow always manages to get these parts and capture them on video. This time, they have footage of the new iPod Touch assembly - front facing camera for FaceTime and slightly bigger case.
We’ll know everything in a week. At this point, though, a FaceTime enabled iPod Touch with a higher resolution display is pretty much a given. [iSpazio via RazorianFly]
I posted a preview of My Artists back in June, but the app I have here on my iPhone now is nothing like that. My Artists was already good and promising (as if it wasn0t clear enough), now it’s just great.
It’s more than an iPod companion, it’s a full-featured iPod replacement for iOS devices. Hit the break to find out.
I missed this app on its launch back in April, when the iPad was released. Music Flow does only one thing: it brings the CoverFlow music browsing experience to the iPad, which lacks it by default. It retrieves albums and artists from iPod.app, it gets the album covers and allows you to swipr through them using your fingers.
Simple. $1.99 in the App Store.
Sometimes timing is everything, and in this case it’s very bad for Apple. Last month, in fact, Apple was ordered by Japan’s trade ministry to improve safety warnings over some overheating first generation iPod Nano units that caused minor burn injures in four cases. Three days ago another overheating iPod delayed a rush-hour Tokyo train, Reuters reports.
