Great news for all the players and Mac users out there: Steam for Mac is finally available in private beta, and we’ve received the first screenshots of the application. Check them out after the break.
The application seems very similar to the Windows counterpart, and it retains the same and usual dark color scheme of Valve. You can access all your games in the Library and browse the Store, but we haven’t been able to get any screenshots of available games yet.

I have been signed up to the beta for ages, but nothing yet
I can’t wait for this. Since I switched to Mac OS I have barely used Steam at all. And I do love it.

Oh man! A Macstories exclusive! You’re going to be like Gizmodo and oust the guy who accidentally left the Steam Mac Beta in a bar, right?
In other news: OMG DO WANT.

Dang, I signed up for the beta a long time ago but never received anything. Do you have to do something to get it? Or is it just random? How is it that some people have it and others don’t that signed up?

@Justin, I’d expect that they used the system profiles and picked so they’d have a good range of test systems. Other than that, I’m pretty sure it’s random.

Only question is if it will work on 10.4 or not, seeing as that’s what I’m stuck with as I don’t feel like getting a whole new system just to handle a new OS.

That video has proven to be a fake, as it is a Cider port of the Windows Steam client.

@CiderRific,
It’s not fake. Why? Because I have it running on my Mac! It’s beautiful, I’ve played Portal already (SO much better than in a Windows VM) and am downloading Team Fortress 2.
The 9600GT handles it so much better natively than through Parallels. (Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, 2.8Ghz, dual-card setup, 4GB DDR3, 15", 320GB HDD @ 7200 rpm)

Release will probably be timed with the new "gamer friendly" (as in cheaper) i7 mac pro release in June.

The servise is great and welcome. But the application itself looks quite basic in terms of design, more like a web app, nothing like those cool Mac apps.

@Alex, thats because the new steam is 100% based on a web app, with their own browser, it works incredible nice, also looks great, why you really need those "cool" mac environment really?
Actually the design world is turning against simplicity and usability thats all, anyways steam looks pretty nice instead.
Btw, why all the photos here looks deformed? its painfully to the eyes.
