I have NetNewsWire open almost all the time, so I never noticed that happening. NetNewsWire is part of the script because I wanted to enable the Service for NNW. So if you have it installed and you're reading a feed or article or webpage in NNW and there's a link to an article you want sent to Instapaper you can just right click and access the service... But it turns out that the way services and automator's applescript implementation works has the service compile the applescript at runtime, which causes NetNewsWire to open if its not already...
