Tweet from Safari with Thurly. Reviewed.

Posted in reviews by Federico Viticci.

If you recently switched from Firefox to Safari, you’ve probably noticed the lack of browser addons. While there are thousands of addons / extensions / whatever for Mozilla Firefox, there’s no doubt that Safari is not a very customizable browser. But anyway, there are a few developers who have developed excellent plugins (that’s how they are called in Safari) you should definitely check out.

Today, I would like to talk about Thurly.

Thurly it’s a very simple plugin which lets you shorten and share URLs on Twitter: you can open Thurly by pressing Command-Control-T or assigning a custom keyboard shortcut. That’s it.

What’s great about Thurly is its minimalism: the pop-up window “slides” down from the tab bar in all its Core Animation awesomeness and you can even choose between a classic light gray interface or a sexier, HUDish translucent black layout.

When you launch Thurly the apps display some basic information like Shortened URL, Shorten a Different URL or Twitter Status. This means that you can use thurly both as a twitter plugin for Safari and as a powered-up bookmarklet to short links.

Playin’ out with the plugin’s Preferences, you can add multilple Twitter accounts and create a template which will be used for all your status updates. For example, I use %title% %URL% when I share a page I find interesting.

Both these features are exclusive to the registered version of Thurly. You can purchase a license at $4,95 here.

In conclusion, I found Thurly stable and functional. It’s a very simple plugin, but it works well and has a great UI.

If you’re a Twitter addict and you use Safari, Thurly is a must.
