great review, as usual.
as a recent convert to things, from rememberthemilk, i still find myself looking for a way to get specific times for some tasks (yeah, yeah, i know these should go on a calendar) and i do miss the sync everywhere, available everywhere, side of the milk.

but you're so right, and the iphone app is so cool and well designed, and i find myself using it more and more.

usually i just add stuff to the inbox, and sort through that when i get home and sync it with the desktop app.

quickentry (with fill) is just too good.

thanks for a great review, and on to the next one (mobileMe review)

Thanks for a useful review. I still use iGTD while I look for a worthy GTD app to migrate to. Things comes pretty close. However, I haven't adopted it because it has no nested or sub-projects. Also, it seems to me that smart folders is a natural and elegant complement to tagging . Any idea if these are on the drawing board?

Things is simple, but that's what makes it so useable. I want to spend my time getting things done, rather than fiddling with a GTD app. The less time I spend even in Things, the better. I use the Quick Entry for nearly everything and only bring up Things' main interface if I need to start major Projects or Areas. In fact, at this point, I use Anxiety for a quick HUD list of my tasks for the day as it syncs perfectly with Things (due to iCal.)

@Julia Altermann, That's great to hear. Feel free to send me any feature request, bug or tip - I could forward it to the developers.

@storiesofmac, yes, the way GTD is approached is different for THL and Things and it takes a while to switch. I've been holding out with THL for a year now (since the last MacHeist), and it suits my workflow really well (smart lists, almost infinite subtasks etc) - stuff that Things doesn't offer.

Like you (just vice versa) I've tried Things a number of times and it went to the trash almost instantly every time. Just couldn't get a feel for it. This time, I've actually sat down and made a PLAN of how I needed to structure stuff to fit into the Things approach of GTD. With that, it works now.

Hoping with you that some of the issues you mentioned will be addressed in the next update.

@Julia Altermann, Thanks for your comment Julia, and for appreciating my mention of the usability issues. I believe the developers are actually looking into them and probably we'll see them fixed in the future updates (I hope, at least).

As for The Hit List, I've tried it many times and it went to the Trash everytime. I think THL is more a technical demo than a full features, reliable to-do management application. They kinda put everything on the "OMG IT SEEMS A REAL NOTEBOOK!" thing and, speaking of usability, I never found the reliability I can get from an app like Things. The iPhone app seems good looking too, but it's never coming out.

That said, I seriously need a powerful, stable and feature-rich organizer app, so I went for Things. Very happy with it.

Great review and thanks for pointing out the usability issues (projects from the area's section opening in projects; projects being collapsed etc) because those are things that bother me as well and I though I was the only one gritting my teeth on that.

I actually prefer The Hit List over Things. By far. But since there isn't an iPhone app available yet and I really need the project syncing feature (with the subtasks correctly displayed), I bought Things for the iPhone and I'm demoing the desktop app. Might buy it tomorrow at the indie sale.

Still, wish THL would come out as v1.0 with an iPhone app.
