SpeedDownload is surely one of the most famous download managers available for Mac: great interface, cool features, but quite expensive($ 25).
Today I would like to talk about Folx, an interesting alternative to SpeedDownload.
Se siete degli utenti Mac avrete sicuramente sentito parlare di SpeedDownload, uno dei più famosi download manager sul mercato: interfaccia pulita, caratteristiche interessanti..solo un pò caro (25 Dollari).
Oggi vi voglio parlare di un’alternativa a SpeedDownload, Folx.
Folx supports HTTP, HTTPS and FTP; besides, the application allows you to resume your downloads and accelerate them through multi-thread.
Folx automatically organizes downloads in lists (application, movie, music, other …) as soon as you enter the link to the file: these lists are organized in subfolders as well in the Folx folder (located by default in Downloads).
Besides the features mentioned above, Folx allows programming downloads, displaying the state of the transfer with a small palette chart, automatic recovery, Growl support..
Folx does not win the prize for the most beautiful interface (especially when compared to SpeedDownload) but is still quite useful.

Folx supporta protocolli HTTP,HTTPS e FTP; inoltre, l’applicazione vi consente di mettere in pausa i vostri downloads e di velocizzarli attraverso il multi-threading.
Folx organizza automaticamente i file da scaricare in categorie (apps, film, musica) non appena inserite il link: queste categorie sono a loro volta organizzate in sottocartelle nella directory di Folx, di default dentro “Downloads”.
Oltre alle caratteristiche sopra elencate, Folx permette di programmare di downloads,visualizzare lo stato del trasferimento attraverso una palette chart, ripresa automatica, supporto a Growl e molto altro.
L’unico difetto di Folx risiede probabilmente nell’interfaccia utente, non proprio il massimo se paragonata a SpeedDownload, ma rimane comunque un’applicazione da tenere d’occhio, dato che è ancora in Beta.

Folx is simply a Speed Download hack. If you look closely at the interface, a lot of the stuff is blatantly stolen and made much much uglier. It’s no surprise they are giving it away for free; its no where near as high performing and refined as Speed Download. I got Speed Download LITE for $20. At that price, it blows this piece of junk (my opinion) away and the Yazsoft support is simply unrivaled. A response within 10 minutes of sending my email on a Sunday. The folx people are simply trying to lure more people to their website to sell them their other applications which have received pretty negative reviews all around on the MacUpdate site and other places. There are even talks of shady practices of that “company”. No thank you.

Don’t know if the things you say are true, but I definitely find Folx a very good apps. Sure, it’s not as refined as Speed Download, but I don’t know if they stole or hacked something.

Strange…. I actually like folx and its functionality and think it’s quite honest and wise to make free public beta. Why would they take money for beta version while it is still under development? I guess when Folx becomes ideal app for Mac users it will cost something..
If I don’t like something, I just say "I don’t like it", "It’s not my favorite thing", but being rude is off. And why would that be a hack? Just another Mac app, no wonder it looks similar… But a hack… It is a downloader, how should it look?
BTW, I was dealing with their support and on weekdays they respond quite rapidly and clever.
