I was going to ask the same question as JB. I am using Gmail IMAP with Mail.app. Gmail has all my email anyways. So, why do I need to backup with Mail.app? I am curious coz I've been thinking Gmail has all the email, so why worry (Google isn't going anywhere soon)!

What about Time Machine?

If your using Gmail (and understand German) you should check this http://bit.ly/83tM04 (Public Wave)
It makes using http://www.gmail-backup.com/ easier on the Mac.

Personally I feel that MailSteward is a far better option, has a lot of features, does incremental backups, uses standard formats, provides search etc. All this seems to do is copy the mail directory and compress it on a regular basis.

@JB, Indeed, I don't you need this if you have a Gmail account. I use IMAP with Mail.app, have a pretty much big library, that's why I decided to use it.

Looks good… but shouldn't be necessary if you're on gmail, right?
