@Alex, thats because the new steam is 100% based on a web app, with their own browser, it works incredible nice, also looks great, why you really need those "cool" mac environment really?
Actually the design world is turning against simplicity and usability thats all, anyways steam looks pretty nice instead.

Btw, why all the photos here looks deformed? its painfully to the eyes.

It's not fake. Why? Because I have it running on my Mac! It's beautiful, I've played Portal already (SO much better than in a Windows VM) and am downloading Team Fortress 2.

The 9600GT handles it so much better natively than through Parallels. (Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, 2.8Ghz, dual-card setup, 4GB DDR3, 15", 320GB HDD @ 7200 rpm)

The servise is great and welcome. But the application itself looks quite basic in terms of design, more like a web app, nothing like those cool Mac apps.

@Justin, I'd expect that they used the system profiles and picked so they'd have a good range of test systems. Other than that, I'm pretty sure it's random.

Only question is if it will work on 10.4 or not, seeing as that's what I'm stuck with as I don't feel like getting a whole new system just to handle a new OS.
