One month ago I wrote that Reeder was the new best RSS reader for iPhone. Then, some people started criticizing my review, telling me that Newsstand was way better than Reeder: it had more features, better stability and – this is weird – better support from the developer. Now, with the latest 1.2 update that went live last night I’d like to say it once again: Reeder is the best RSS app for iPhone.

Here’s why.

The new update brings two much requested features: Twitter and pinboard support. While pinboard is a nice alternative to delicious bookmarks not so many people use (I’m in,by the way) built-in tweeting is what really matters. The way Silvio Rizzi developed it is clever and simple: bring on the sharing menu from the single feed view, choose Twitter and here you go, the new tweet menu. Here you can either enter your own text, but the cool thing is you can tap on the Title and Link buttons, which will automatically insert the post title and link. The link will be shortened on the go using the j.mp service.

Other fixes and refinements include Mark as Unread, Slider control for List entries, one tap sending to Instapaper, image squeezing and opening iTunes link in App Store mobile app.

Loving Reeder and the new features. Newsstand is ok, but not a patch on Reeder.

Multiple Twitter account support would be nice though :)

I’m still unsure on Reeder compared to Byline. I bought both, but Byline seems to load websites inline faster, and seems a bit easier to navigate. The icons in Reeder are a bit confusing and there’s no explanation of them…
